El Halal Amigos - San Jose

Delicious Mexican food with a halal twist. Founding chef Hisham has gained a lot of recognition in the area and has won awards. I've never been to a halal Mexican restaurant and this one is a cut above. All meat is certified halal. No pork products of course: substitution for pork pastor is chicken (pollo pastor) and they have vegan option of crispy kale and sweet potato you can use for tacos, burritos or enchiladas.Other meat options are:brisket barbacoa,carne asada and mahi mahi. I think the tacos are the best! I had NAR-cho burrito for this visit with barbacoa and black beans and it was tasty. We also had guacamole fresco and chips which had a generous serving of guacamole. No alcohol is served but they do have agua fresca and sodas. I like when you dine in they serve food on nice ceramic plates and the presentation of the food is perfect. This has become one of my top San Jose Mexican eateries!

After we picked up my son up from the Flixbus in San Jose, we were hungry and were looking for somewhere nearby. We checked Yelp and found an interesting sounding place, Halal Amigos (bonus is that Susie Cakes is across the street, but that's a separate review).Ambiance and Service are subpar. The inside is very cramped with REALLY loud music, as in you have to almost yell to have a conversation, and the staff are indifferent to almost unfriendly. Parking is tough to find, so expect to circle around and/or walk.Food (including Nar sauce) is the sole reason for the 4 star review. Burrito Super carne asada was delicious, tender, but with a juicy, almost citrusy twist. NAR cho Burrito same yummy carne asada with nacho twist was great with Nar Sauce. Taco plate carne asada tacos, beans were very good, rice was a little too greasy though.Nar sauce is AMAZING! Perfect edge of heat and freshness, and if I'm honest, probably the reason we'll come back. It's distinctive and deliciously spicy like La Victoria Taqueria's orange sauce in SJ.

Great birria tacos(served only Sundays) and chicken narchos! Chicken was supreme and tacos were somehow both crunchy and juicy ?And it’s all halal as the name of the restaurant clearly

We came for a day to San Jose, CA and chose this restaurant to dine-in. Everything exceeded our expectations. The food is delicious with that special taste of our grandmas cooking, plus huge sizes. The best thing was the service, there were two teenagers well trained, polite, educated, checking we were ok, friendly and smiling all the time. You can tell they enjoy working there which makes the whole experience that much better plus those boys speaks both Languages “English and Spanish” which is a key for State as it’s California.My congratulations and respect to the owner.

El Halal Amigos is one of the most unique halal restaurants that I have tried. It's quite rare to find authentic Mexican cuisine that is also halal, which makes this place stand out. My family and I have eaten at El Halal Amigos numerous times and have never had a bad dining experience there.The food is always fresh and flavorful. My favorite dish to order is the Brisket Barbacao Quesadilla.The service at El Halal Amigos is also excellent. The staff are attentive and welcoming. I highly recommend giving El Halal Amigos a try if you are looking for a unique culinary experience. It's the perfect spot for halal Mexican food done right.
