I walked in here with my partner on a weeknight around 9pm. This place is poppin' among ajusshis and Korean families! We got the pork and vegetable bbq special and the meal also included soy bean paste stew, banchan (4 types), rice, and a heaping serving of kimchi on a separate plate. There is only 1 server, a Korean woman, who takes your order and helps you out. I didn't know that she would cook the raw pieces of pork for our table, that was super helpful in so many ways. As she served other guests she would make sure to come back to our table and flip the onions and pork until they were ready. She gave us pointers on how to eat the pork, kimchi, garlic, onion, and jalapeños with the dipping sauces--TEACH ME YOUR WAYS!! Note, I have not eaten kbbq at LA, so I can't compare. However, this is a good spot for a newbie like me who regularly dines at Gen. TLDR; Honestly this little spot offers great service and I felt welcomed.
Rice wine and a lot of Korean side dishes are provided. The food was good especially Zokbal which is part of pig toe.
TLDR I don't know if I've just been ordering the wrong dishes, but the food has been anywhere from bad to alright quality, yet also extremely pricey definitely not a one-dollar-sign price range, Yelp! . I'll give it points for seeming authentic enough from the large Korean presence it attracts though. I think this place is just so-so, but I've heard from some people that this place is pretty authentic. Judging from the sheer amount of actual Koreans who filter in and out every night, that seems about right. The first time I went I got the Army soup budae jigae , which was VERY expensive $45 for a very underwhelming army soup. It didn't even have many ingredients that usually army soup would have! From my memory, it didn't have fish cake, tofu, rice cake, or cheese. I gave this place another chance, and I got a pan fried seafood pancake and fried mackerel which were alright. Those were cheaper and had alright portions, but still on the pricey side. Every time I went there was only one waitress, so service can be a little slow. I also feel like they used to have a larger menu based on past pictures, but it has since shrunk. Some things displayed in the current menu are not available to order. Parking can potentially be tough. There is a small private parking lot for the four or five businesses in the lot, including Big Tree. During dinnertime it can get really hard to find parking.
