El Zarape Mexican Eatery - San Diego

Last night, I had a craving for Mexican food and decided to check out El Zarape on Adams Avenue for the first time. What a fantastic choice it turned out to be! The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and the food was incredibly fresh and tasty. I ordered the beef tongue tacos, and they were absolutely delicious—juicy and tender. My friend went for the mixed plate with chicken and shrimp enchiladas, which were equally delightful. Our waitress, Juliana, was sweet, accommodating, and very helpful. Thank you for the wonderful service, Juliana! We will definitely be back.

I ordered the Camarones ala Diabla, which is supposed to be a dish featuring super spicy shrimp. Unfortunately, the sauce was watered down, and the ingredients were not properly blended. The garlic, tomatoes, and chilies were just chopped rather than puréed, and the shrimp itself was not cooked well. I ended up eating it since I didn't want to waste my money, but honestly, it wasn't worth the price at all.

Overall, my experience was just okay. I ordered a shrimp burrito and a chicken taco plate. The burrito was quite small for the price, and the tortilla was gummy and lacked flavor, making it difficult to hold together. The filling consisted only of shrimp, white sauce, and pico de gallo, which resulted in quite a messy meal. It would have benefited from some cabbage or rice to help absorb the sauce. On the positive side, the amount of shrimp was generous for the price. However, the chicken in the tacos was bland and dry, and the rice and beans were also lackluster. Despite this disappointing experience, I’m still interested in trying their breakfast burritos in the future.

I enjoyed an incredible breakfast burrito from this place. I can't wait to return. The interior was clean and modern. The staff was very polite, and the food was served quickly! Overall, I’d rate the food a 5/5.
