Coming to the Lion House Pantry was high on my list of touristy things to do while in Salt Lake, being interested in both history and religion, and given that the house once belonged to Brigham Young and his family. The official website made it look like an old world experience of homemade food-- sort of like a Mormon Cracker Barrel. I wasn't expecting my experience to be more like a school cafeteria, except with a much more picturesque atmosphere. I ended up having a "cashew chicken" salad, which was a pre-made plate of iceberg lettuce mix and an ice cream scoop of the chicken salad topped with cling wrap. No dressing. The chicken salad itself didn't resemble any other chicken salad I had ever had-- it had chicken, mayo, but other colorful things in it and was topped off with one lone raspberry. To be honest, if I were just glancing at the scoop, chicken salad wouldn't have been my first guess as to what it was. That said, it was surpassingly tasty! Still, it would have been better with salad dressing and, for the price, a slightly bigger scoop of chicken salad. The rest of the food in line looked just "okay." The desserts, despite claiming to be quite famous, looked cheap and uninteresting. Seriously, Starbucks offers more gourmet food. I'm glad I had experience of visiting the Lion House Pantry, but if not for the historic ties, I wouldn't have spent the money to eat here.
