Contribuiți la feedbackWhile exploring uptown, we decided to have lunch at this lovely little restaurant. We tried the seafood chowder, bruschetta, and coffee, and all were delicious. We definitely plan on returning in the future.
Just had the famous Beatty Beastro Club Sandwich...it was on fresh homemade bread with thick slices of chicken breast and cheddar...so good with a light glass of wine.
The food and service were once amongst the best in the city. Place is starting to look run down, service is beyond slow and quality of food is average at best. I hope they can turn it around because I would never recommend it now and I once recommended it a lot.
Beatty and the Bistro is an interesting little restaurant located in the corner of the former Admiral Beatty Hotel which, by the way, was the location of my high school graduation dinner and dance back in, ahem, 1974.......I believe that my escort for this affair, over forty years ago, is a recipient of this newsletter. If I didn't tell youthen, I am telling you now, it was a fine evening. Thanks! The hotel has long since closed and is now a coveted apartment complex for seniors. It is just steps from the Saint John City Market and many other uptown landmarks. The restaurant has fewer than a dozen tables and patrons may look out at Kings Square while dining. I am sure that most guests are greeted by name as they walk in. I was there for lunch earlier this week with a lady friend (and former guest of Chipman Hill Suites now living here in Saint John). Although I went in planning to have the Fisherman's Lunch, I was talked into the club sandwich, which was fabulous. My guest had the same. I highly recommend it, and likely she does, too!The owner, Helen Buck, is also the chef and the server. Her signature dessert is Lemon Chess Pie. It is just fabulous. I always have it when I'm there. The prices are reasonable and it is a nice quiet place to go for lunch. They also serve dinner, or just tea in the afternoon, with, of course, a piece of that lemon chess pie. Thanks, Chef Helen Buck for a great lunch.
My husband and I have enjoyed going out for dinner at Beatty and the Bistro when we can for the last 20 years. The food is always excellent, fresh, home made, locally sourced and portion sizes are appropriate - quality over quantity - not excessively piled up with fillers like fries. Favourites are the local lamb selection, the curry dish and the desserts. Helen is a charming host / chef. You may need to be patient with the time required as she is usually the only server and the chef. But enjoy your wine, time to talk and the passersby on King Square. Ideal spot for a pre-show dinner before or post-show dessert when going to the Imperial.
