My wife and I visited La Petite Auberge for the first time having driven through the village on more than one occasion previously, and having been informed by friends that it was well worth a visit. Car parking very accessible opposite the church and only a short stroll to the restaurant. Friendly staff at reception. This visit was a business lunch and the food was arranged by the organiser of the event. The first course was a tasty terrine, the main was a lamb chop with a potato/veg galette; There was a choice of fromage blanc or assiette du fromage, before a fondant au chocolate avec crème anglais. There was a local rouge vin and du eau avec coffee to conclude. Because of the nature of the visit and because the menu was arranged by the organiser we did not think that it gave justice to the restaurant. We will return in due course under our own terms. Our only criticism for this visit was that the fondant au chocolate was cold along with the crème anglais.
Lunch on the terrace was quite lovely. Owners out to greet us, talk with us and welcome us inside to their restaurant. We had the chefs menu. A pumpkin coconut soup to start, was quite interesting. The. The scampi risotto which was nice. I had the veal stew which was done not to heavy which was good because it was a hot summer day and my partner had the pork cheeks which were just delicious! Wine was good. Local cheese were good.berry and pistachio desert was perfect Highly recommend
Surprise, because there's not a lot in St Didier, it's, er.. diddy! I went as part of a group of about 25 people on Good Friday 2016. Four of the 25 turned up without having booked, but the owners took it all in their stride. It's a super little restaurant, informal and slightly quirky in the way the French often have; warm colours, very cosy. The food was excellent - starter of fish terrine, then lamb curry with rice (I suspect specially prepared for the group of Brits), cheese, dessert, coffee. Wine was extra, payable individually according to how many glasses you'd had, so pretty trusting. The curry was mild, but made with whole spices. The cheese platter was small, but two of the cheeses were very local ad the third was not local but very good. I didn't have the pud, so can't comment, but judging by the lip-smacking around me and the fact that someone ate my pud as well as his (I did offer!) with great relish speaks for itself. Coffee was included, and they do good decaff. The owners are delightful and speak good English, so if you want to book by phone, don't be afraid if you don't speak French. Parking in St Didier's at a bit of a premium because it's small and hilly, but even for a party of 25 it seemed to work OK. The restaurant is practically next door to the church, where there's parking, and opposite another parking space, too.The seating was at three long tables, which suited our group, and there's another room next door to the one we were in which I think had separate tables. I honestly can't fault it, judging by my one experience there (soon to be repeated). Oh, yes - the toilet in the restaurant is very nice, always an important point! But note the singular - just one toilet, so please, gents, put the seat down! There's a terrace for when the weather is suitable for outdoor eating, but it wasn't by any means suitable when I went, and I was glad of the huge log-burner. All in all, a great little place. My lunch without wine cost 22 Euros, so I'm not sure what range that puts it in; I've selected mid-range. Like many French restaurants, it's not open all day every day, so probably wise to ring ahead if you're in the area out of the high season. And if it's the high season, you may need to book, of course.
This restaurant is a little treasure in lovely Morvan. The restaurant serves 5 courses of delight for a gentle € 32. Good wines and very friendly & interesting hostess and chef! We will definitely return to their table!
