La Walsheim - Rouen

We had lunch here during our walk through the city. daily specialties were fresh and cheap. service is top.

We had wandered round the Place Barthelemy and looked at Fils et Maman (virtually empty Nothing grabbed us, as it were, but we couldn't help noticing that the Walsheim was busy and lively. So we decided to try it. It was a good decision. I...should say that atmosphere is a key part of what we were looking for and a prix fixe menu... The Walsheim provided both and we had a really enjoyable meal sitting outside in the shadow of the magnificent Sainte-Maclou gothic church. The food was good (and good value) and the service (once we got past the initial German schtick) firendly and responsive. Recommended for a good value fun meal in lovely surroundings.

The restaurant was full when we arrived however we managed to get a table for after just minutes. The service was excellent. The snails in particular were amazing. We used up all the bread to finish off the sauce! Good portion size too...especially the sauerkraut.

Had a reservation and we were seated quickly and then time slowed down (yes even by European and French standards). Spent the first minutes getting drinks, spent the following hour waiting for food. of people ordered steak and among the managed...to cobble together one edible steak. Thank goodness for copious quantities of frites. Like to think it was an off night but I would not return to confirm.

Very little choice of restaurants o an Sunday in Rouen so you take what you can. We chances this place having seen around in a row next to a big church the previous night. This place serves German beer, has german dishes and is...very much food from the Alsace region of France. However it also has all the normal Normandy favourites on a very full menu as well. It’s all very reasonably priced, has plenty of tables in and outside, relatively good service although it was super busy tonight so had to wait at times. Good selection of fixed menus and off menu. Great bar. Lots for children. Great location. Ok, you will get bette quality food in many restaurants but for the prices, time of the week and general ambience, we could not have been happier on a Sunday evening. Great wine choice as well.
