Contribuiți la feedbackFood excellent. Best salad on a plane ever! The order was a little tricky. At some point, the cooking owner and I worked out a plan, but then there were other layers probably just one FBO thing. I'd go to the café to eat as much better than any other food I found in the area.
Full disclosure: I have never physically dined in the Southside Café; but the fine people who run this food business offered us catering. Without being too wordy, I have to say that I was quite amazed at what they could do. Our lunch was not short... excellent. It consisted of a veggie noodle salad, seafood noodle salad, Thai salmon, salmon mousse and chocolate mousse for dessert. I would like to pay particular attention to the seafood nut salad and salmon mousse. The salad contained wild shrimps, wild fish, fresh peas and a light dressing. Initially I didn't think this worked because Sablefish (black cod) is a very rich, oily fish and I thought it would totally exaggerate everything in the salad. I don't know what the people did in the Southside Café, but they managed to integrate this rich, oily – but very tasty – fish into their creation and have WORK well with the other elements in the salad. Spectacular! And the salmon mousse? It was beautifully presented in a Phyllo bakery. The smooth texture of the salmon complicated the light crunch of the pastry and offers a beautiful contrast in textures. It was so good that I had several of them. I could go on, but you have the meaning. After a long and laborious day it was nice to have a gourmet menu – a far beyond your typical dry sandwiches and seasoned, ugly salads. Only then did I learn that Southside Café provides private jet aircraft. Everything came together and made sense. If you offer food services for private and executive aircraft, the offers (or should) must be high. So it is precisely because Southside offers this service that they were able to perform a catering menu for us on such an impressive level. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: Due to my experience with their catering, I am curious to taste the physical cafe. I mean, if this was any clue... then this is clearly a cafe that stands well above his weight! Very recommended! The Southside Cafe is located just two blocks east of the YVR South Terminal, tucked away on a quiet dead-end street. I never would have discovered this hidden gem if it weren't for my friends. During our visit, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast while being warmly hosted by co-owner Sarver. My friend Jan was thrilled with the classic bacon and eggs, while I tried the bacon, egg, tomato, and cheese sandwich on two slices of cranberry bread. Sarver mentioned that their main clientele is pilots of private and corporate aircraft, so you can expect top-notch service. The cafe even has 6 parking spots reserved for customers. I highly recommend this cafe without hesitation.
We were looking for a place for a quick bite before we picked up someone at the airport. Our GPS led us to the Southside Cafe. We were disappointed that it wasn't open. When it happened, the owner just went up and invited us and said he could do something to us. We had a nice chat and a good sandwich before we were on the way.
The soup and sandwiches at this restaurant are fantastic! The staff is friendly and the service is good, but it's the delicious food that makes this hidden gem worth seeking out. If you happen to be on the South side of the Vancouver airport around breakfast or lunch time, make sure to turn right off the main road towards the South Terminal. Keep going past London Air and then turn right again to find the Shell FBO (Fixed Base Operator), where you'll find the South Side Cafe located right there.
