Koto Izakaya Sushi & Robata - Richmond

My business colleagues recommended this restaurant for dinner, so I had low expectations. As soon as I arrived, my initial impression seemed to confirm my doubts - the restaurant was small and a fan was blowing hot air out the front door. My attempt at a Japanese greeting received confused looks until I switched to Cantonese, then the women responded. However, my concerns disappeared once we were seated. The service from the women was friendly and efficient, the food quality was excellent, and the portion sizes for the price were impressive. My chicken teriyaki don was so large that I could hardly finish it, and the price was very affordable. My colleagues had a bento box, sushi rolls, and sunomono salad for less than a meal for two at McDonald's. Our overall dining experience was positive, and I would definitely return. I give this restaurant a solid 4 stars.

We revisited this little place after a few intervening years preferring the Ajitaro (now closed). We were very pleasantly surprised. Even though the place was packed out on a Monday evening they quickly found us a little nook for our family and the quick and polite service has improved remarkably since our last visit. Our favourite Kamikaze rolls were sumptuous as ever and my daughter's Teriyaki chicken was really tasty and readily devoured. The Dynamite sushi were a little disappointing but for 60CAD we had a great family meal for 4. We will be back again.

This restaurant is a fantastic choice for sushi, especially for those looking for a more affordable option later in the evening. My group enjoyed the Saba and salmon rolls, as well as a large bottle of Kirin to share. We also ordered the rice cakes, which were delicious. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Kirin beer not imported from Japan but USA. Should have realised when we were the only ones dining! Bento box. Salmon, raw tuna dull and dry not fresh. Disappointing. Will not be back.

Situated in Richmond. Late-night menu with discounts. Lots of takeout orders. Food was pretty good too. The place was not run by Japanese or Korean, but that should not stop you from trying.
