Entering the castle complex is a little like entering a farm, as we walked a bull in a pen after we exited our car and as we were walking up to the castle. Because it’s January, we noticed that many of the businesses outside the castle were closed. After touring the castle, we unexpectedly decided to get something to eat. As it was extremely foggy out, we barely noticed Il Gattopardo out of the corners of our eyes and decided to take a chance on it. To be honest, we didn’t expect much as we were walking up to the restaurant. Much to our surprise, the restaurant was full of people enjoying themselves. We were quickly shown a table and our waitress made some suggestions. My partner had the ravioli with ricotta cheese and I had the caviti with fried eggplant. Both meals were outstanding! My partner and I were completely shocked that this restaurant we almost missed had such delicious food. The secret to the restaurant’s success I believe is their sauce, which is delicious. Service at I’ll Gattopardo was very good and their is free Wi fi, which our waiter helped us connect to. The restaurant’s prices are reasonable. If you are going to Donnafugata Castle, we would recommend that you have a meal at I’ll Gattopardo. You won’t be disappointed!
This restaurant visit was a true joy...the service (Angela) and the cuisine we're outstanding...highly recommend the mussels and the cassata.
Craved pizza on our last night in Donnafugata. The welcome was warm, the host’s English was better than our Italian and the pizzas exceptional. I had the mushroom and prawn lovely. 2 pizzas and 2 beers for €27. Very good value.
After an afternoon visit to Donnafugata Castle we sought a tasty value for money Italian /Sicilian meal and we were not disappointed! Great food, plus cool drinks, great service and good prices, with very friendly staff and an opportunity to eat outside, which we took, or inside! We were the first customers as we like to eat early but the place soon began to fill up! Worth the trip to go the castle and then this restaurant!
