Jarman's Fish Chips - Powys

I ordered food for three adults and three children's meals for a total of £35. I was quite surprised by the cost, and if it wasn't for the kids, I would have considered leaving. The portion sizes were not particularly large either, as two of the adults received small portions of chips.

We decided to take a trip to Newtown today as the lockdown restrictions were lifted in Wales. We noticed that Jarman's fish and chip shop was open, so we decided to give it a try. Wow! These were the best fish and chips we've had in years! The fish was delicious and the chips were fluffy inside, not hard like some places. They also had a wide variety of options on their menu. We will definitely be returning!

Walked in about 7pm. Little food on the hot shelves and no staff to be seen. Did appear open, I waited for 5 mins then left. This was a Friday in August. Is there a problem with this place? Certainly not as busy as other F&C places in Newtown. Perhaps I just walked in at the wrong time but one would expect to be pretty busy on a Friday.

A varied menu and the quality was excellent. It was clean and the staff are really helpful. Will definitely return

We stopped by here for lunch and looked over the menu board. I wanted the southern fried chicken, but was told they only serve it on certain days which was not the case today. I ended up choosing the battered jumbo sausage and chips, while my partner went for the beef and onion pie with chips. Our food was delicious and served hot. We decided to take it back to our car to eat, as the dining area was up a few steps which would not be accessible for disabled individuals. You have to wait at the counter for your food and drinks, and there is an additional fee to dine in. Despite it being lunchtime and market day, the place was empty. The atmosphere was strange and made us feel like a burden for wanting food. We have visited before and the staff didn't seem very happy. Although we frequent Newtown often, we will likely look for another dining option next time as this one was not particularly affordable.
