We come to Paris every year and always start our visit with lunch at this beautiful brasserie, and we always have the vast Fruits de Mer Royal Platter, with a good bottle of Chablis. We were really looking forward to our lunch this year but it all fell a bit flat, not because of the food or wine (both of which were excellent as ever) but because of the service. We had booked a table as always, but on arrival were taken to a very quiet area right at the back of the building and away from the buzz of the main restaurant. Our waitress was pleasant at first, but as time passed she seemed to lose control of her section. We were unable to attract her attention to both get our plates of empty shells removed, and to have top section of our Platter (which we had finished) taken away so we could move on to the section beneath. Eventually (and I mean after fifteen minutes of trying to get her attention) we gave up, and placed the section on the empty adjacent table. This certainly did engage her she swooped over and angrily told us we 'cannot do this , then rather dramatically removed the tablecloth, which the platter had made damp, ignoring our explanation that we had been trying unsuccessfully to get her attention for some time. She then gave up on us completely and did not look at or address us again, presumably because her shift was coming to an end. The young man who replaced her at 15.00 was a lot more agreeable and engaging, and we tipped as we normally would, hoping it would go to him rather than to her. We 've been coming to the Brasserie for about fifteen years, and of course we 'll come again, but having always experienced very good service it was surprising and disappointing to have such a sub par experience. I do understand that young waiting staff have to build up their experience through starting out on the quieter sections of a restaurant, but this young woman clearly needs a bit more help and supervision at this stage in her career.
The pros : quick service, good value for money, typical brasserie experience, large choice of dishes and alcohol, good seafood platters The cons : it was a bit difficult at times to get the waitress’ attention.
Lovely meal here. Everything very French and just how you imagine a French bistro. So I went full French meal. Onion soup, steak, frites and then profiteroles. The whole meal was great. Very good atmosphere and excellent service. A great way to end our trip
Just across the road from the Gare de Nord station this was recommended by a friend, do we took the opportunity for a lunch on the way back to the UK. Beautiful interior, the service was excellent and the food fantastic. We had a mix of dishes, moules frites, salmon and pork chop. All were lovely.. accompanied by a bottle of champagne to celebrate an unexpected engagement. Great end to a fabulous weekend. Will make sure we make time for a proper lunch when we next visit.
