Really nice micro-brewery and restaurant in the heart of the town. Outdoor seating is available for nice days and 2 floors of bar and table space for dining. Staff is experienced, friendly and accommodating. Menu is a nice mixture of breakfast options, burgers, tacos, salads and fish and chips among others. I was in a group of 12 and all of the dishes received great reviews from the group. Everything was cooked correctly and presented well. Great place to pop into if you go to Starved Rock State Park or attend the Burgoo Festival in neighboring Utica. Good eats and good staff.
If you are in town either camping, stopping by during a road trip, going/coming back from starved rock, etc) the Lone Buffalo is definitely a solid restaurant to eat at. My sister and I stayed at the getaway cabins not too far away and this seemed like the best bet for a dinner out. It didn't disappoint! We were seated quickly at a nice big booth and experienced excellent service. I took advantage of the happy hour specials then a sampler of beers enjoyed most that I tried! My sister chose from the Oktoberfest menu and picked the Best of the Wurst. Pretty delicious and my favorite was the curry brats. We also got the house soup of the day and the fried cheese curds excellent cheese pull on the curds! I think the only let down was the watermelon cucumber salad it was pretty mid. I was expecting maybe a bit more feta and more of the Tajin flavor. Overall, still a solid pick and I would return if I am in the area again.
Went for Oktoberfest--very disappointed!! They ran out of pretzels during Oktoberfest, which is wild. Then, we dealt with a rude waitress. In addition to her dirty looks and bad attitude, she and numerous other staff (no one exaggeration, 4 people) ignored the trash and empties on our table. When our food finally arrived, my pickles had an obvious black hair in them, and the kids' French toast came served with some kind of goop, which is not advertised on the kids menu. I couldn't believe we were charged full price for hairy pickles and bad service. Thumbs down, will not return.
Stopped by to have a snack on our 33rd wedding anniversary. I 'm not one for the sports bar atmosphere, but it wasn 't too loud. The menu was extensive and looked delicious. In a bit of a hurry, I decided on just a burger. Wait staff was at our table promptly, and she was very friendly. I ordered the Brewmaster BBQ burger (name? medium. I know, mid-rare is the only way to get a burger, but with a new place I always get the medium first. The wait time was a bit long even though it wasn 't all that busy, over 20 minutes, and our waitress seemed to spend all her time at the taps? That 's not fair to her, I believe. The burger came out and it was well done. Oops! I was in a hurry, so I didn 't send it back, we had to eat and run. Well, it was not just well done... one side was napalmed. But know what? It was STILL good. Ingredients were fresh and a perfect complement, and the bun is just the type I love. And this might be the only time in my life where I couldn 't tell if the fries were fresh or frozen, but I lean frozen 70-30. We weren 't checked on at all during the meal, so maybe please have the waitresses waitress. There were other wait staff folding napkins and such, not 10 feet from us. I grabbed someone to refill my tea, but they brought sweetened, which I find disgusting. My wife had the roast beef panini and she loved it. So what to say? I KNOW this place is likely a gem, maybe I just got unlucky. We will definitely be back to make a deeper dive into the menu and to try a flight or two. So four stars for likely potential only, one away for the well-done burger. I think that 's fair.
