La Badia - ORVIETO

You cannot beat the location. Eating outside at the Abby is wonderful. Buffalo mozzarella caprese was excellent. Sangiovese wine was reasonable and good. Filet of beef was very average at best. A disappointment. Service great. Price ok. Fernando the cat (we like cats) was sweet.

Had lunch here on arrival, as we were staying at the hotel (beautiful, if pricey), and had a really wonderful meal, including whole artichoke, and agnolotti with rabbit ragu. Lovely setting and exceptional food.

Had a wedding dinner here (not regular menu). The food was just astonishingly good. 5 courses, each better than the last. In fact I still remember what I had a week down the track. Best was definitely the duck ragu with tortelli and the chicken cappriossa (however u spell it) lasagna.

My pasta was really good, but husbands duck was overdone. Slow service too and they were not even busy.

Food is not the best in Italy, yet not the worst either. However, the setting is very special, tables set in the Medieval courtyard. I would recommend it if only for the experience.
