The Shack - Old Orchard Beach

I visited a charming little restaurant right by the coast during my first trip to Maine, and I was eager to sample as much fresh seafood as possible! I opted for a combo plate that offered a fantastic variety. The clam chowder was excellent, along with the cocktail shrimp and smoothies. For my main course, I had a whole steamed lobster, mussels, corn on the cob, and coleslaw. I'm glad I tried it all, but I'm not sure I'd order it again. It was a fun experience to crack open my own lobster, but I found that steaming made it a bit chewier than I prefer, so it's not my favorite way to enjoy lobster. As for the mussels, they can be a bit off-putting with their strangely mushy texture, although they were definitely prepared well.

The burger was fantastic, and the haddock was both flaky and delicious. The house pasta salad was enjoyable, although the pasta was a bit overcooked; however, it didn't significantly affect the overall dish. Even though the place was busy, they had our take-out order ready in just 20 minutes.

The food here is excellent! It's one of the best fish and chips we've ever had. I'm usually not a big fan of lobster, but the lobster roll was incredible—so fresh! Our waitress, Bernadette, was attentive and always had a smile on her face. Our daughter has allergies to nuts and kiwi, so we checked with the staff about those allergens before putting our name on the waiting list, and they confirmed that neither was present on the menu. In fact, the owner is also allergic to nuts, which is why they aren't included on the menu. Overall, the food and service were outstanding!

Very good service. The lobster roll was good but too expensive for what I got, plus had to pay extra for fries instead of chips. Nice out door seating. Somewhat limited menu.

Absolutely delicious food and adult beverages! I definitely recommend. Lobster rolls were full of lobster meat. Fried food was fresh and perfectly cooked. Good size portions. None of us left there hungry. Wish we had been there earlier on our vacation as we would've had dinner there again.
