Taxiboat - Northcote

We wandered in to Taxiboat on spec after seeing a flick at the Westgarth (Dunkirk: confronting but excellent).

This place is OK but not greatIt was busy when we visited on a Thursday evening which is always promising, however I was a little disappointed.

We wandered in to Taxiboat on spec after seeing a flick at the Westgarth (Dunkirk: confronting but excellent). We planned to debrief at Kelvin and did so over a fetching negroni. The good people at Taxiboat said they'd find us a table and would call. They did so. The call came through that there was a cancellation and we had a spot. We had such a nice time here. We were so impressed with the management and staff. Our very late request for a table was handled politely and efficiently. The service throughout was excellent too. We loved the food here. It's modern Asian. We had three excellent dishes. Rocking, duck and sweet potato with noodles. We were surprised by the generous sizes of the mains. The flavours were wonderful. They were accompanied by a Vickery Eden Valley riesling, a lovely riesling indeed. It was a lovely combination. No wonder Taxiboat was full, front and back. It's a lovely restaurant with excellent food at reasonable prices and good service. You can't fail with that business model. We'll be back for sure.

We dined here on a Thursday as they have a two course special for $23 ish dollars on that day of the week.Good value.The only drawback is that it is not BYOPad Thai was delicious as was the duck curry.Bit difficult to park, but that is expected around High StDo try it.

We were lucky enough to get a park right out the front of this restaurant.The place is quite small and intimate but not too crowded.Conversation was reasonably easy.The food was excellent and the pricing very reasonable.However the service was quite patchy. We had to ask for a wine list on arrival and also ask for table water.But again the food was excellent.
