Amazing experience. We've seated on the bar and they serve full menu there. We started with the bagel and it does really Worth trying! After that, we got the Horias (high quality lamb with tahini salsa and salad) and then the octopus. Wow, this octopus was the Best that ive had! The place is not that expensive and all plates can be shared.
It says Mediterranean Restaurant , but actually it is a very high level of fusion kitchen using Arab and Mediterranean ingredients, cooked in French and other modern techniques. The dishes made by chef Meir Adoni are delicious, surprising, creativity arranged on the plates. It is difficult to find a table, so make a reservation ahead!
As a huge fan of Meir Adoni, I was really looking forward to visiting Nur. I’ll start with the food, very inconsistent! Pani Puri was a blast, Druze pita had too much Amba which overshadowed any other ingredient, octopus was nice but the Lemongrass oil was too poignant and the texture of the cremes was too dense, the “Knaffe” was a disgrace dry piece of gum not even resembling real Knaffe which is moist, sweet and filled with runny cheese. The chocolate tart dessert was interesting and more reminiscent of the Adoni I know. Paying so much for an experience like that is just wrong! About the experience, I have made reservations for 9:30pm, which was the only time available for dinner during the week I was visiting New York. What I hadn’t known was that the kitchen closes at 10pm. We were running a bit late, but even if we hadn’t this meant we had very little time to decide what to order, and also couldn’t add dishes along the way, which made my experience very rushed and unsatisfying. Concerning The space itself, it is very small, boring and pretty underwhelming. No bold decisions have been made, design and atmosphere are too minimal. This could have been any other restaurant. Nothing screams “Nur” but the food. Atmosphere and music aren’t less important guys! It was also super loud and not intimate at all.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I looked forward to this restaurant because I heard it's hard to book. We got one of their bread (with grated tomato), lamb skewers, seafood stew and scallops. Everything was well flavored but everything on the salty side, especially the lamb. There were many distinct ingredients, but in the end, everything became muddled, both flavor wise and texturally. Beautiful plating, nice ambiance, and friendly waitstaff. Worth trying, maybe when the hype dwindles a bit.
