Excellent cup of coffee here around midday, on way to Buckler's Hard. Very quiet at this time but the pub was cosy with massive low beams festooned with fairy lights. We're not tall so OK but server was and he had to duck several times! The bar was constructed of brick in an attractive herringbone pattern. We were due to stop for dinner the next evening on the way home but had to cancel because the weather was so wet that we went home early. This was a pity, as the venue was charming, complete with thatched roof. There's a newer, thatched building facing the pub with hotel rooms available. Unfortunately, it's right next to a busy road, so could be noisy. But I'm sure other attractions make up for this.
Went for quiet lunch with the wife after visiting Southampton. The menu said Steak and Ale pie so we ordered two. Horrified to find that not only was it not steak but chiken and ham and there was next to no chicken in the pie and absolutely no ham at all. It was filled with a couple of morsels of chicken and a whole lot of what looked like mashed potato. £33 for the two of them. Gravy was nice though.
Service was very good, starter excellent. Unfortunately the main let it down, chicken supreme, expected it in some sauce, but it was just chicken on a tasteless mash mixed with with peas, very disappointed.
Ive never been anywhere where the staff where more miserable or unhelpful, had to go to the bar to order our drinks as no one bothered to come to the table, order took ages to take, food was ok , but honestly staff were the worst... dont work in hospitality if you cant even smile..... all reviwes i've seen say the same thing STAFF awful
