The Barbecue Pit - National City

The food is excellent, and the staff, including the cashier and cooks, are very friendly. The value for the quality of food is great. I will definitely be returning for more.

This restaurant has a nostalgic atmosphere and is very roomy, but it often appears to be empty. The meats are excellent - not outstanding, but just excellent. My rating of 4 stars is because of the side dishes. It seems like they focus a lot on the meats but neglect the sides. The macaroni salad is too sweet, the potato salad is watery, the fries are lukewarm and unappetizing. The beans are the only side dish that I enjoyed. Overall, it's a decent spot if you're nearby, but I wouldn't recommend making a special trip just to dine here.

Not a southern or texas bbq spot. Disappointed Bbq sauce sweet. No choices in spiciness. Had roast beef, dry tough not bbq seasoned. Friend had pulled pork he said ok.
