The menu has changed since it was Tobby 's but if anything, it 's far better. The owners added their own creations and kept some of the best sellers of Tobby 's old menus. I definitely do not understand why this restaurant is so overlooked. When it comes to pricing, El Jefe has by far the BEST bang for your buck when it comes to Mexican cuisine in the area. The food never disappoints me either and portions are reasonably sized. They have a complete bar and have many different alcoholic beverages to choose from and also have half price margaritas on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This restaurant is family owned and operated as well and they definitely care a lot about their business and their customers. I am Mexican myself and am very picky when it comes to Mexican food, El Jefe 's food has that homey feel to it and I have never experienced that with any other Mexican restaurant. El Jefe is truly a hidden gem in the area. Also side note: El Jefe has two bars located closely to it and I know that they sometimes have to deal with obnoxiously drunk and rude people. To those people all I have to say is, BE RESPECTFUL.
A nice restaurant to go and sit down in down town Morris. But the food has gotten worse over the years. I still buy tamales every year, always delicious!
The most UNDERRATED MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN THE AREA! I've been coming here since 2020 during the quarentine. It was my favorite place to eat at on a budget. The best value for your money, amazing quality food, great portioning, and probably the best Horchata I've had at a Mexican Restaurant within the Illinois Valley. If you've got $25 for a dinner for two I promise you will get full and satisfied. The only thing holding this place back is the location compared to it's competitors. The competition is right on Rt. 47, whereas this place is downtown Morris so this restaurant gets OVERLOOKED. When compared to Habanero Grill La Mex, it is simply the better option for everything I have listed above. Plus the owners are very nice genuine people once get to know them! My Fiance I will always be Loyal to their Service!
It's been a few years since I've been back to this restaurant. the name has changed. I think it's called jefes now. but they still give you a bottle.
My man has been coming here with his family since the days when they were just a few tables on the back of a food business. they may have changed.
