Auberge De Montigny

An auberge that evokes memories of the France we fell in love with. Nothing fancy or complicated about this establishment. Just a short menu. First class meals at a very reasonable price with friendly service. Visited on three occasions during 2022 after being recommended. Wish we had tried earlier, but now we have discovered this wonderful place we shall be returning. Fabulous outdoor area and fantastic views from the interior area.

Very friendly and welcoming restaurant close to the lake. No complicated menus but a choice of 3 simple but good starters and mains.

We walked in for lunch and the place was empty. I was tempted to walk out, but we had already ordered drinks. There was only a menu with 3 starters and 3 main courses to chose from, but when we got the food it was worth it! Simple home cooking but absolutely delicious. I would come back without a doubt!!!

Since this is the only restaurant in Montigny en Morvan, I ate dinner here twice, and really enjoyed both meals. Everyone's preferences were well accommodated including a delicious, two course (off menu) vegan meal for me; a duck dinner that hung from a metal skewer suspended over the plate for another diner, a beef tongue dish for the decidedly non vegetarian, and a delicious chicken dish for another guest. The owner treated us very well, and it was terrific to find my vegan diet so cheerfully and expertly accommodated in such a rural spot.

Good French food without pretense in an old tavern on a hill: this is where you want to go especially on a Friday night.
