La Sentinelle des Settons

Noticed the restaurant closed during the day which is strange as right opposite the tour of the lake boat launch! It was open one evening and we called in for dinner. The waiter gave us the menu, the choice was very basic, set menus...inc children. He didn’t explain what the fish of the day or meat of the day was, we had to ask and the waiter or waitress weren’t sure what the fish was. When he brought out the drinks he tipped some of the glass of wine which was not replaced. The starters were from a buffet, terrine/pate needed seasoning, some flavour other than mashed chicken, the quiche was flat and we were told the basic salads made up in the morning, this was now The main course, we were given each other’s meals by the waiter, chicken with very little meat forks worth) and a tasteless ‘gravy’, fish was served with a dark brown tasteless sauce, both with squared fried potatoes and soggy haricot vert. Dessert, another disappointment from the buffet chiller, including flies. The chocolate cake was tasty but dry and needed icecream or cream to compensate but there was nothing available, the creme brûlée was in depth, soggy sugar syrup instead of crunchy topping, cheese was so dried out from the chiller we couldn’t cut it! When I asked to speak with la manager, the gentleman at the till couldn’t understand what I was asking for, the waitress helped with some English explain we didn’t enjoy the meal and weren’t happy to pay the full cost. The manager then explained they have lots of people visiting and no one else had complained only us so should they call the police. We paid the bill, left and obviously won’t return again. If you want burger and chips then this is the place for you, anything else is very bland, sparse and tasteless. This review is not exaggerated and relays the bad service and poor food exactly as it was.

La Sentinelle des Settons offers a terrace with views of the lake. A very relaxed atmosphere and efficient staff. Once ordered, the food arrives quickly. The food is well presented and portion sizes are good we had the steak burger and chicken burger. Both...of which were good although if you are looking for more traditional French cuisine this is probably not the place for you.

Reviewed this place years ago and it was great. Now the staff can't be bothered. Make sure you ask for vin ordinaire' if you want wine or they'll give you the most expensive without telling you till you go for the bill. To be...fair, when I complained, they refunded the difference but they seemed to have lost the ability to speak English that they had the last time I was there!

Absolutely terrible service!! Don’t bother as very expensive even if you get served ! Servers completely ignored us until we asked to be served then walked off and didn’t even ask us what we wanted to drink. Looked at a menu and all was very...expensive. Cannot comment on the food as we never got the chance .

We ate here in July. The view over the lake was stunning. We've passed this bar for years and it was closed. Now it's been opened as,a family business and it's a pleasure to visit. The food was wholesome especially the burger maison and...the chips sprinkled with paprika were delicious. Yes the service isn't speedy but it's down to experience and lack of opportunity to employ staff, not lack of care. Come here, soak up the view and ambience, don't be in a hurry and enjoy the food.
