Avoca Salt - Monkstown

This place has recently gone through a catastrophic revamp that has erased everything that used to be good about it and has transformed it into a soulless fridge.

Stopped in and queued at the coffee hatch for 20 mins with kids only to be told they’d no hot chocolate. Cakes and pastries completely empty and not restocked either. Deli shop no longer selling hot drinks and told the wait would be too long to get hot choc from the restaurant. Poor attitude and customer service as well.

We have visited other Avoca restaurants in the past and have always been pleased. We decided to treat the family (3 adults 2 young children) to Sunday breakfast. Menu was surprisingly limited, no kids menu at all. We ordered 3 full breakfasts and pancakes for the children. The breakfasts looked great but were at best lukewarm when we started to eat them. Not a single item could be described as hot. The plates were cold as well. For the prices Avoca charge this was very disappointing. We are unlikely to return.

I have had great visits in the past but regrettably not this time. We had booked well in advance and despite this were put on a table at the front despite tables further back being available and much warmer. No wine list and eventually got order taken, starters good and main courses arrived immediately after, The mains had been left on the pass for a while and chips were cold they went back and by the time they arrived back we had eaten our burgers as they were just warm. Table was not cleared and service was poor. There was no in charge it seemed. When we asked for bill it was wrong and we sent it back and then we’re asked to pay without the bill which we refused to do. Unfortunately I won’t be back which is a pity as I have enjoyed salt for years

Food was good when we eventually got to order and when it eventually arrived. Service as a whole was shocking.
