The convenience of this dining was what makes it, but it was a Lil pricey for us and the food was...poor, in my opinion. The coffee creamer were expired and the eggs were not the best and the biscuits seemed old. This was not from the buffet, but from the menu. The staff was SUPER friendly though! And it was a clean, inviting atmosphereLike I said, the convenience of it made it.
Where do I begin? The inn is a nice getaway spot if you want to relax. Wi-Fi did work well if you wanted it, but devices didn 't stay connected, necessitating repeated logins. Not a big deal. The room we had was on the third floor- which was a walk up the stairs because the elevator wasn 't working. The room was large but desperately in need of a remodel. The AC was controlled by a combination thermostat and three position fan switch mounted next to it. The temp numbers on the old thermostat were tiny and hard to see. Despite this it worked well. The room included a TV, a DVD player, a coffee machine, a microwave, and a mini- fridge which worked well.I pulled a hand towel off the rack above the sink and the entire rack came off the wall. This has obviously been happening for a while. The wall holes for the rack are too large for the screws. The shower worked reasonably well, but was slow to drain so you end up standing in ankle deep water.A huge disappointment was how loud the folks in the next room sounded. It actually sounded like they were in our bathroom. We think the sound came through a wall vent. It was startling and a bit disconcerting to hear the folks in the adjoining room, and clearly understand everything they were saying or doing. Fortunately, we had no neighbors on the other side. The big surprise this morning occurred as I stood in the middle of the room in my underwear when someone attempted to open our door, and the only thing stopping them was the swing lock. When the door opened and banged against the lock, someone said Maintenance! No door knock preceded the attempted entry. We didn 't let him in.The restaurant had a nice, rustic ambiance and the servers were all friendly, But sadly that 's where it ends. Only buffet service is available, despite the lovely breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus in the room. Maybe those are not available off season? The dinner buffet was $24 a person. Salad section was decent, but the main courses were mediocre at best. Some kind of potato and meat casserole that tasted OK, and a cabbage and sausage dish that didn 't have much flavor. The baked chicken was also only mediocre. It 's hard to keep that food hot on a Buffett line. There were also what looked to be baked potato halves that were over cooked and bland. The cherry cobbler was good, but the crust was a bit overcooked. Again- $24 for this food. We faired a bit better at breakfast for $16 each. The scrambled eggs had been sitting for a while and the exterior was a dried crust-like consistency. Oatmeal tasted ok but was cold. The available fresh fruit was good. The French toast sticks were a bit soggy, with no syrup in sight. Coffee was good and hot.Despite all of this, we enjoyed hiking the trails and visiting the pioneer village. We didn 't come for the food! My advice is to look for a place to eat in Mitchell- or just stick to the salad. We found out the inn is due for an 18 month renovation, starting in November. Here 's hoping they fix up the rooms and do a better job of soundproofing!
Spent some time here while staying at the RV park and thought it was very nice. Cute decor/theming and very well maintained exterior/common areas! Several food options, little gift shop, and information about the activities going on across the park are available within. Parking is free and close to the inn. Breakfast buffet reminds me of a typical free hotel breakfast, so we thought it was overpriced for what it was... in general, the restaurant staff seems a bit disorganized and unmotivated. Overall a relaxing setting and supposedly is being remodeled in the next year and spruced up! Looking forward to staying here sometime.
Spring Mill State Park is one of seven Indiana State Parks with an inn on property. This is a beautiful state park worth checking out. Like most state park inns, this one is historic and doesn't feel very modern BUT, it will close in November 2022 through the first quarter of 2024 for significant modernization. This includes update to the rooms, conference center and the dining room. I can't wait to see the updates! Note that while the Spring Mill Inn is closed for 18 months, the State Park will remain open.
