Shige Express Meridian

The salad was frozen so that wasn't a great start. The sukiyaki was completely devoid of flavor, I couldn't finish it because it was so bland. The miso soup and sushi rolls were fine but not enough to redeem the overall bad experience.Food: 2/5

Wonderful dining experience. Service was on top of it, not just by the servers but by the chefs as well. Food was delicious. I'm not a huge sushi fan, but I would go again! Thanks for such a good experience. My partner and I had such a good time.

Wonderful restaurant. Shige has been making Sushi in the Boise area for over 30 years. He remembers many regular customers even after they move away. It's fun to visit him when I come back to the area. My favorite is Tobiko with Quail egg (photo included).Food: 5/5

I love Japanese food, so I was excited about this place, but unfortunately it was very disappointing. The restaurant itself is a bit dirty and worn out, the menus at our table were sticky and felt like they rarely got wiped down. Our server was never in sight, and it's not a big restaurant. We felt very neglected, and whenever they were there they'd run away quickly and we'd have to almost yell to stop them in time to ask for utensils or something before they vanished again. I didn't even get to try the miso soup because they never gave us a spoon, and the server was never there for me to ask. The food itself was incredibly poor quality tasting. The unagi in my husband's sushi was mushy and gross tasting, though he said the rice was good. The yakitori was bland, even doused in sauce and just tasted like unseasoned chicken and onion. The gyoza were fine, but deep fried instead of pan-fried/steamed which is usually a way to hide a poor quality gyoza. The Katsudon was disgusting. The pork was cooked to death, and the seasoning was just bad. The egg was overdone on one side and completely raw on the other side. Luckily they did refund that one which I appreciated, since I couldn't even eat half of it.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the valley. They always do an amazing job and treat you like a family friend every time you visit. I can't recommend this place highly enough; if I could, I would give it six stars! Food: 5/5
