Wasn't sure if it was a good thing? Despite only about 20 patrons being present and about 5 or 6 staff our meals could not be served with delays of about 5 mins between meals. The food was OK but a bowl of rocket some sliced onion and dressing is not a salad in my book. Didn't bother with desert as they looked a bit yesterdays or maybe the day before.
I went there with my Dad for Lunch this afternoon and I had the 250g Scotch Fillet and Calamari with a Raspberry Lemonade. My Dad had the Seniors Chicken Caesar Salad and a glass of water and I had a Lemon Merignue Pie with Cream for dessert also it was extremely nice of them to let me take the other half of the scotch fillet home.
Walked into the bistro to find just one couple sitting in there which is never a good sign. Decided to have a meal anyway to find out what it was like.Vegetables were perfectly done, however the pork (far too much of it) & gravy were both bland. And never before have I had a pork roast where crackling has not been a part of the meal. The pork meat did not taste like good quality pork. It also had a darker appearance to the usual white pork meat I have had elsewhere. The good staff get an excellent rating, but the food can only be described as average which may account for the lack of patronage.
Let me start with the caveat that my wife is allergic to nightshades, capsaicin and shellfish. On Australia Day, I decided I needed a quintessential Aussie meal - a pub Parma. As we had a voucher that needed using, we decided to visit the Bayswater Hotel. The Parma was good, but the thing that drew my rating is the care the kitchen and serving staff took with my wife's meal. When we explained her allergies, the chef was able to vary the barramundi dish from the menu so my wife wasn't triggered. This made the meal a little bland and dry, as the sauce & stir fry had to be omitted, but the staff were happy to oblige with a tub of mayo to balance the flavours and make the meal much better. We finished with a classic Aussie dessert - pavlova. As we were sharing, the kitchen gave us separate scoops of ice cream. The pav was the perfect ratio of crust to marshmallow, even though it was handmade, while the cream was fresh, and the tang of the passion fruit sauce set well against the sweetness of the strawberries. All in all, a great way to celebrate Australia Day!
Went to enjoy a nice meal with family and ordered a chicken parma and it turned out to be one of the worst ever. I think the chef should visit the Corner Hotel in Alexandra to see how a chicken parma should be cooked. Use fresh chicken instead of the cheap chicken fillets from the local supermarket.
