Ugh, this place. I love the idea of it, especially in a to go heavy pandemic life. The chicken is very good, certainly in the top 3 in the city (I favor Southern above this, and I find Byrd Barrel to be quite close this is probably a touch better as I find the other to be too salty sometimes. The tenders by the pound are an exceptionally good deal. At this time they are $12/lb, with (supposedly two included sauces. Truly a steal for this quality. However, lots of other details are misses. In the past, they offered a whole selection of sauces, now tenders simply come with ranch supposedly two sauces for a lb, per the online menu, though my last order contained just the one. It 's a decent ranch for this purpose, light and tangy, not at all cloyingly heavy. But I find the loss of options to be a downgrade, and the absent mindedness of 2 3tbsp of sauce for 8 9 tenders really detracts. Mac and cheese is reasonably good not reinventing the wheel or mastering any techniques, but a totally decent version. Greens are a bit salty, but overall acceptable. Cornbread is painfully dry, not to mention a poor value about a 2.5 square inch serving for $2.5 3, depending how many sides you 're buying. A blueberry hand pie looked and sounded lovely online, but turned out to be completely grease soaked. While I am not shy about chowing on some deep fried goodies, this was so wet it was translucent, with a flavor more of the fat it was fried in than of pastry or blueberry. To be fair, ordering a deep fried dessert to go was partly my bad. As this thing was invented in a to go only time, I was hopeful for an elevated version of the packaged supermarket or donut shop hand pie, while what I got was a greasy enchilada.

This place is located in the Grove and has the friendliest staff ever. They were very upbeat and courteous. There is metered street parking out front and on the side of the store. Please fit the temptation to park in the adjacent neighborhood because you will probably get ticketed.They have a large country style dining room with some bar seating on the side. There is also a place to sit outside on the sidewalk on the side of the restaurant. You will also find a walk up window to pick up to go orders on that side as well.I was looking for a late night treat and this was one of the few places that were open. Their menu is full of Southern favorites. They serve sandwiches, fried chicken, soup, catfish, shrimp , burgers and shakes. They also have wine and signature cocktails. But I was there for one of their unique treats. I had to decided between one of their hand pies and their pear bread pudding. After consulting the staff, I went with the bread pudding. It took about 10 minutes for them to prepare and it was fresh and hot. It was not what I was expecting, but was still pretty good. I thought that it would have more pear inside the bread pudding. But it was regular bread pudding with a small and thin pear fruit roll-up sheet on top.Anyway, this is a very nice southern spot that I highly recommend checking out while in the Grove. They have high quality food, superior service and a wonderful atmosphere.

Best fried green tomatoes I’ve ever eaten (and ice had some good ones). Chicken is pretty damn good too. Well worth a visit.

There was a point in time where we came here every weekend for a month... The food was exactly what we wanted each time and the staff were so friendly. The chicken tenders are exactly what you need late night after a few drinks. We also love the outdoor seating when the weather cooperates.

My friend took me to brunch here on Sunday, and I have to say, I was completely blown away. I haven't tasted chicken and waffles this good since I lived in Colorado, where four restaurants were vying to create the best versions of this dish. I will definitely be coming back with my wife to try every combination they offer on the menu. You should definitely visit and bring your friends because this is the go-to spot for your chicken and waffle cravings!
