Kokokara - Madrid

My faculty gets together there for lunch sometimes. It is somewhat fusion. I usually order the same: shrimp salad and tuna with avocado and spicy sauce.

The place was on the small side and the decor austere. It was a weekday and it was packed for lunch. Yet, the team of 2 chefs/ servers managed our expectations with professionalism and delivered a delicious lunchtime tasting menu with friendly service. Yummy Japanese comfort food, and very good value for money.

I have visited Kokokara several times since 2013 and every visit has been consistently excellent. The rice is always a good indicator of a sushi chef's skills and they consistently make excellent sushi rice which perfectly complements the fresh cuts of fish to make every mouthful a celebration of eastern flavours. There is a handy guide for guests to eat their nigiri and maki by hand, with good humour. The restaurant is small, so making a reservation is a must. They also prepare for take away which is always handy. The waiters are pleasant and professional, the chef is a very jolly and always wearing an authentic smile. Highly recommended for sushi lovers, they also de excellent soups, noodles and other specialities. Enjoy!
