Q - Los Angeles

We had a very pleasant dining experience at this restaurant. The three of us enjoyed every bite of sushi with our eyes closed, captivated by the sophisticated decor, impressive artwork, and beautiful antiques. The black walnut ceiling, designed to look like an ocean wave, and the sand blasted brick walls adorned with glass panels added a modern vibe to the vintage DTLA space. The service was attentive and friendly, and Chef Hiro demonstrated his expertise in the kitchen.

Eating at this restaurant is a real treat, as you get to witness Samurai-level skill in action. The chef's precise movements as they slice the fish and shape the rice are a highlight of the meal. Every bite is a delightful experience, with delicious and balanced flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. The traditional service and decor also contribute to the overall atmosphere, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts who appreciate the complete dining experience.

I will not be returning to this restaurant again. The service was the main issue for me. The waitress did not even offer water or tea, and only spoke three sentences during our meal - "hi," "no video please," and "goodbye." The chef also seemed detached, just making sushi, serving it, and then being on his phone. There was no explanation of the ingredients, just the name. I don't understand how they received a 1-star Michelin rating. The food itself was okay (maybe 4 stars), but we didn't feel any connection to it. The ambiance of the restaurant felt cold and unwelcoming. Despite the lackluster service, they still added a 20% service charge to the bill. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

My meal at Q was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had Walking in from 7th street you are immediately transferred into a different world.

I am shocked that this place made Jonathan Gold's 2017 list this yearI don't eat omakase often but when I do it is usually for a special occasion.
