Frankie's On Melrose - Los Angeles

Food is amazing, servers are great, atmosphere absolutely wonderful. My only slight critique... the bread is meh and portions are a little small.

On a Sunday evening, the restaurant was quite empty. We arrived around 7 PM, and there was only one other table with diners. Another couple came in while we were there. As for the food, I would give it 2.5 stars—the bolognese was overly sweet, making it nearly inedible, and the Alfredo was drenched in sauce. The service was adequate, earning a rating of 3 stars; nothing exceptional, but it was enough for our needs.

My boyfriend's bolognese was better than my dish, but he thought it was still lacking for what we paid; it was a bit dry and needed more meat. All in all, we won't be coming back.

Fantastic Italian restaurant on Melrose! As soon as my friend and I stepped inside, we could tell we had found a truly authentic Italian spot. The staff was incredibly friendly, and it was clear that most of the patrons were regulars who had established a rapport with the employees. The food was delightful, especially the gnocchi, which was some of the best I've ever had—it was so soft it practically melted in my mouth! I highly recommend trying it. They do offer complimentary bread, which is a nice touch, although it was quite basic and something you might find at the store. I wish they had garlic bread instead! Be sure to ask for olive oil, as they initially served us butter. The ambiance is dimly lit for dinner, making it a lovely spot for a date or a small gathering.

Was catching up with a friend and we decided to try out Frankie's. The restaurant was pretty quiet and it seemed like the other tables were regulars joking with the waiters and waitresses and having a great time. They started us out with some bread which was decent and then we got the ricotta gnocchi and Julia's grilled chicken. The gnocchi was so good and the chicken was delicious. At the time I was really craving garlic bread so I was a little sad they didn't have any on the menu but otherwise we had a really great time.
