Brisket And Brulee - Lichfield

Recently, my group and I visited this restaurant just before Christmas and had a fantastic meal. Impressed, we decided to return for a birthday celebration last night. However, we were disappointed to find that the quality had declined drastically. The focus seemed to be more on style rather than substance. My crayfish salad starter was small and disappeared in just three bites. For the main course, three of us ordered lamb shank and three had haddock parcels. The presentation was lackluster, with the lamb shank simply placed in a bowl with a few random vegetables. The haddock looked appealing but lacked substance. The lack of a set menu meant we had to pay a la carte prices, which we felt was not worth the money. Overall, we were unimpressed and do not plan on returning anytime soon.

Having been regular visitors to the Crown pub we finally decided to try the restaurant. The small, intimate eating area is fine and the menu is varied and more than adequate for all customers. The presentation of all the courses was exceptional, in keeping with a high-end establishment. All the food was beautifully cooked with just the right amount of seasoning and flavour. Service was good, efficient and courteous. They've pitched the pricing just right with three courses at just under £24. I hesitate to heap any more praise on this restaurant, as it might make getting a table difficult in the future!

After several weekend visits, I've found the menu to be small and seasonally changing, with a great variety of options on Fridays and Saturdays. There is usually at least one fish and vegetarian main dish, along with meat options. The desserts are also excellent. The portion sizes are just right for the type of food being served. This restaurant is not part of a large group or chain like many pubs these days. The food is freshly cooked with a genuine passion and exceeds expectations for such a small and hidden away place. Due to its small size, I would recommend booking a table in advance, especially on weekends.

The Sunday lunch at this restaurant was delightful, with a homecooked feel. The presentation and service were top-notch. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone of any age and I will be coming back for more.
