Contribuiți la feedbackRendezvous is my top choice for food and drinks on the island. As soon as you enter the parking lot, you're greeted by the charming dive-bar atmosphere. There are bar and table seats, but the overall seating is somewhat limited. It's especially wonderful in the summer when the back deck is open. Both the service and food are always reliable, which is why we keep coming back. While their menu isn't extensive, everything they offer is well prepared. Some of my personal favorites include the deep-fried halibut burger, smoked salmon pasta salad, clam chowder, Sicilian chicken over salad, and the adult grilled cheese. And of course, the **** Marys are a must! Honestly, there isn't a single dish I've tried that I haven't enjoyed. The only downside is that their hours can be a bit unpredictable, so it's a good idea to call ahead before heading out.
During my visit, I ordered the Fried Cod, which comes with fries, but for a $3.00 upcharge, I could substitute chowder instead. Unfortunately, the server misunderstood my request and brought both the fries and chowder. When I pointed out the mistake when my food arrived, I was informed that this was how the dish was served. To make matters worse, I later found a $6.00 charge for the chowder on my bill. It took several attempts on the server's part to resolve the issue with someone at the bar before it was finally corrected. Now, onto the food: the Fried Cod was excellent—six pieces cooked perfectly, accompanied by a decent tartar sauce. However, while the chowder had a lot of flavor initially, it only filled about 20% of the bowl with a very thin broth. Adding more potatoes or other ingredients would definitely help bulk it up. I had to strain most of the broth just to get to the clams at the bottom. The broth itself was unremarkable; not particularly bad, but not something I'd want to drink. The clam mixture was tasty on its own, though. As for the fries, they were limp, not warm, and overall quite disappointing. The service was not ideal; the server didn’t check on us until we were almost done with our meals. Thankfully, I ordered a water along with my beer, which was nice to have during the meal. On a positive note, the server was friendly, although the initial experience was slightly off-putting. When I called to make a reservation for three, I was told it wasn’t necessary for that number, which led to a bit of confusion upon arrival. Luckily, a solo diner kindly invited us to sit with him as it appeared crowded. There was also unused space at the bar, yet we weren’t offered seats there. I would be willing to give the restaurant another try, as every place can have an off day, but this experience was not quite up to the standard I’ve come to expect from Kodiak.
Best salmon burger in my life! Tasty peppers with a side of fries really comfortable vibe and friendly service. They were out of the Halibut, so maybe that's the top seller. The salmon was nice and warm and soft. Super tasty!
Delicious food great service! Comfortable laid back atmosphere. Out of the way. Looks like a local for some of the guests.
This is the one true locals spot in Kodiak. It 's a little bit of a drive from downtown, but not that far. You will likely be one of the few non-Kodiakians in here. Food is above average. Beer selection is above average for Kodiak. (no Kodiak Island Brewing on tap though, what the heck? The ambiance and local vibe is really what you come here for though, it 's unbeatable! With the exception of the brewery, most places in Kodiak just don 't have that genuine, lived-in, locals-go-here feel. This place is another rare exception! I did think the chowder was a little weird. It was good, but way way more watery than what I 'm used it. Maybe it 's Kodiak-style Klam Chowder?!
