Contrary to the rugged, frontier image of Kodiak, its best restaurant is a sleek Japanese restaurant, with a lovely site on the channel between Kodiak and Nearby Island, where you can see the fishing boats go by. In a short trip, we were so impressed that we went twice. During nice weather, the patio seats are wonderful. I had the Powerhouse Chirashi, which at $32 was a great value, full of fresh salmon, tuna, halibut, etc. as well as shrimp, spicy mashed tuna and eel over sushi rice. They can really take advantage of the presence of fresh off the boat seafood. My wife had tempura, which she also loved. A little hot sake or Alaskan beer helps round out the meal. It is a little pricey, but was not out of line compared to other restaurants in town, like Henry's, and the food and atmosphere were far superior (even if not what one would expect in Kodiak).
Went here for dinner with family and friends (6 people). The food was exceptional. A little pricey but they took good care of us. A little difficult to find as it's under the Near Island Bridge. Allow a little extra time if you're meeting folks. Overall great though.
We had reservations, when we showed up they were fairly busy and we waited 30 minutes before anyone talked to us. We asked a dude that looked like Sheldon from Big Bang theory if we could get some water and he yelled at us “ we very busy, you wait” So we left. Too bad because the sushi coming out looked okay
I had delicious sushi here (Coastie Roll) with a couple of great craft beers! The sushi was fresh and delicious! The staff is friendly. This is a very popular place in Kodiak. I would return! I recommend it!
We went for dinner. My husbands meal came and he waited and waited on mine to come. I finally convinced him to start eating so his food would not be cold. He started eating and he finished eating and we waited more. No food came. Once our server dropped off my husbands food, she never returned. No water refills, no tea refills- nothing. We finally went to the register to pay and told them I never received my meal. They offered no explanation, no remorse-nothing. Add to that, they charged me for my iced tea that I drank while my husband ate his meal. Horrible service!
