Contribuiți la feedbackWho Needs Sauce When It 's That Good , The Best BBQ in Knoxville , and Your First Trip Won 't Be Your Last are just a few quotes associated with Slappy 's Bar-B-Que. If you stop and try it I 'm sure their Southern Hospitality will include a word from the Owner John and you 'll walk away with a lot more words of wisdom to remember. Let me tell you, they are all true. My Wife and I decided we 'd stop by and in one meal became Slappy 's loyalist. We were greated by the sweet sounds of Will Shepherd jammin ' some Merle and Waylon which could be heard from well outside the building. We spoke quite a bit with John and his confidence in his Bar-B-Que was proven in the flavor of the food. I had the Brisket which was the best I 've ever had. My wife had Pulled Pork and loved every bite. Smoked Cabbage, Mixed Greens, and Mac and Cheese were what we chose for sides. They were all excellent. Definitely try the Smoked Cabbage, I Loved It! John tossed us a few ribs to sample and some Shrimp Gumbo which included Shrimp, Crab, and Conch. Both were amazing. We finished things off with their one desert, Banana Pudding, and it was as good as the rest of the meal. I thought I 'd found the Best Bar-B-Que in Knoxville at a competitor a few weeks ago but I was wrong. It was very good but Slappy 's has my vote for The Best.
Just look at the man who cooks the food. Then think about putting something in your mouth that passed through his hands. You'll turn and run. Tiny portions. Over priced.
No. No. No. The BBQ sauce. The main ingredient appears to be Ketchup? Quite surprised by that! Macaroni is straight out of a Kraft commercial. Baked Beans passable BBQ pork is tough and ketchup is the sauce. See the 3 1/2 stars here? Look at Coal Creek up the road. 5 stars, 100 reviews. It 's no accident!
Been here twice and it's been a pretty up and down experience so far. Food is very good, though one visit I got significantly larger side portions than the next. Staff was really good one visit and flat out terrible the next. One waitress walked by my table several times without so much as a greeting. Finally had to walk to the kitchen to flag her down and place my order. This is something I'm only gonna excuse once before I stop visiting. Hopefully they get better with time.
You get to sit outside under cover with a lot of flies as company. The parking lot is rough and tumble. For comfort there is a big floor fan blowing the flies sideways. Expensive for the amount of food you get I chose the sausage which tasted smokey even though the portion was tiny. The potato salad was fresh from a can and the coleslaw was 50% fluid. The other meal was a loaded baked potato with hardly any meat on top. The pinto beans were so disgusting I wanted to scrape them out of my mouth. The young waitress was moving but the older woman just sat talking to another couple, eventually turning around to tell us that the other woman would take our order like we were in her way. It took a LONG TIME for lunch to appear. We will never return.
