Contribuiți la feedbackThis is the worst dinning experience I have had in Clare. All the food ordered was inedible. It was clear to the staff as we hardly ate anything we were served, and when asked if the meal was ok, I told the staff one starter was overcooked and chewy and the chowder tasted of raw flour. The main that followed was equalling abysmal, and similarly uneaten. The owner was aware we could not eat the food but gave no apology…. We paid the bill and left, overall a very bad experience. I could not recommend it and will not be returning.
Since before Covid I had been wandering by for the occasional coffee and having heard so much about Lir at Kilkee Golf Club that I finally went for dinner the other evening... and what a mistake. I would hope for the sake of the business that this was a one off and just a bad day for them. The good stuff it's a lovely location perched above the cliffs on the far side of Kilkee on the Wild Atlantic Way, and the weather didn't disappoint either wild, showery and windy but from inside the restaurant, quite magnificent! The staff were very helpful, enthusiastic, and keen to learn but it would seem poorly trained, and so to the bad bits. There was no house wine but the red served by the glass was quite palatable. We were late in the day, a busy day by the looks of it, but no excuse for serving, not bad, but badly cooked food on not one dish but three! We decided on two starters, a shrimp (overcooked and chewy) and a seafood chowder (undercooked and tasting of raw flour neither were finished. This was followed by a single, supposedly simple main. but promising battered Fish Chips which was served up on a plate and looked like, to borrow a Scottish term, a midden and tasted only marginally better, once you got past the ageing oil in which the beautiful piece of fresh fish was cooked. On requesting our bill, the staff were genuinely concerned that we had not eaten, and the management avoided us until we had paid the bill which was acceptable, and did not seem to have the annoying service charge add on. The cost was high for simple, unremarkable, if on this occasion somewhat spoiled, food but not out of keeping with the cost of eating out in Ireland generally. Overall, a pleasant place, shame about the food on this occasion and hopefully, I will manage to report a better experience should I ever return for more than coffee and a scone! The golf course looks great though, although I did not play on this occasion.
My Wife and I had 2 toasted sandwiches at Kilkee Golf Club and they were excellent. We enjoyed 2 mugs of coffee as well on Public Holiday Monday 05/06/2023. We were served by Paulina, who was friendly and highly efficient. Many thanks, Mary, Deirdre, Paulina and all the the staff at Kilkee Golf Club for a most enjoyable culinary experience. Incidentally the view from the Club House is magnificent.
I went in for a coffee after doing a fabulous walk, there were two staff behind the bar counter a young gentleman and an other girl, the young gentleman John I think his name is was so nice and friendly and pleasant. However the young girl who I did not catch her name was extremely rude and obnoxious, she like rude to her colleagues and was not friendly to me. She had a sour expression and was not welcoming I tried to speak to her and she had no manner for dealing with the public. For this reason alone I will not be returning to this establishment. I regularly arrange coffee dates with my friends and we had suggested this place but thankfully I went there first and found out before it was too late. I am a firm believer in the saying a smile costs nothing! When I think of this young madam I worry for her future as the attitude she has will get her in trouble yet.
We had dinner in this restaurant over the weekend. Lovely scampi, fish and chips and seafood linguine. Will be back again!
