Jack's Bar Restaurant - Kilcaskan

I knew my options as a vegetarian/vegan would be limited, so I went in with that expectation. The chips were delightful, the soup was okay, and the Guinness was fantastic. However, the music was terrible, and when the CD skipped and stopped, they just restarted it. We eventually had to leave because of it, haha. Our server was outstanding! She was a young girl who said “perfect” after everything we said, which I found really charming. She was very attentive and made me feel well taken care of. Her service alone elevated this place from three to four stars. We were also attended to by an older woman who worked there, and she was lovely as well.

My family and I recently visited Jack's Bar and Restaurant. It was a lovely place. The service was excellent. For us, the food was average. However, several family members said the seafood chowder was the best they had in Ireland. That said, for a seaside restaurant in Glengariff, the fish just didn't taste fresh. Finally, when it came to the bill we were going to put it all on one card. The owner asked for cash. That was a little off-putting. For the price and value, gave it only 3 stars. We spent an average of 35 Euro pp. Our favorite seafood restaurants, with the fresest fish, still remain in Castletownbere just a few kilometers away.

My husband and I visited here on the weekend. It was a late dinner, 8.20pm. We sat inside as it was cold. The owner asked if we 'd like to sit outside, and we said no as it was cold! We were told the specials were on the board. I got the chicken curry, My husband got the soup. It was lovely food. The soup was watery, but he said it was nice. The eating area inside was really cold, and the doors were left open. They had a waitress working for them whose first language wasn 't English. I found the female owner a bit rude in her manner towards her when she was bringing back a plate. The female owner was like, i dont understand you. And took the plate from the waitress. They started to bring in the tables and chairs from outside to inside where we were sitting. It was far from a relaxing dinner with this! The male owner was hanging around a lot as we were sat where people paid for the food by card. He was asking us a lot of questions as to where we were from, etc. Then, he asked us where we were staying. He asked if breakfast was included in our stay. We told him no. He already knew this place didn 't do breakfast as he told us it was used for Ukraines! My husband said there 's plenty of places for us to get breakfast. That is when the owner told us to avoid the cafe across the road if we didn 't want to get food poisoning. He recommended the shop up the road for breakfast rolls. We didn 't listen to him about the cafe. As another local lady told us, the breakfast was delicious. My husband and I went to the cafe right across the road from Jack 's Sunday morning, and I can tell ye. The breakfast was absolutely beautiful. And no, we didn 't get food poisened. I don 't like it when other businesses feel the need to put down their neighbours. They are only trying to make a living just like themselves. The cafe owner was lovely. Her server was also really nice and helpful when I looked for a recommendation. The atmosphere at her cafe was wonderful. We spoke to some locals and also some visitors who gave us more recommendations for places to visit.

When my husband and I stopped for a late lunch on a Tues. in Sept., we were talked into the sole and monk fish. The sole was great, the monk fish came fried like fish n chips. We never asked prices-our fault. We had water to drink. We were asked to pay in cash, which we did to the tune of nearly 70 euro. They gouged tourists because they could. Poor business habit-shame on you!! Food: 3

The service in bars/restaurants in Ireland is overal very good and welcoming. Also the food is generally of high quality. Unfortunately Jack's bar is non of this all. The food is cheap. The two older main workers, I believe the owners, are everything but welcoming.. Not a great place to visit! Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
