Contribuiți la feedbackThe Food is absolutely fantastic. I had the pleasure of cheese and tartufo polenta and 3 kinds of pasta followed by a cheese platter. Wonderful place
Lunched here on the way home from skiing in the Dolomites. This restaurant is approved as safe for Coeliacs by the Italian Association of Coeliacs. But better than safe, the food is terrific. My GF wife started with a trio of freshwater fish, and followed up with the beef stew on celery puree. It was, she said, one of the best restaurant meals she had ever eaten. I took the charcuterie starter, which included one potato and one buckwheat rosti; and the gourmet cheeseburger. We washed this down with half a litre (measured out of a freshly opened bottle what a difference from the normal carafe of battery acid) of Pinot Noir. No coffee, but we both found puddings we could eat. All for under €90. This is definitely going to become a regular stopping place when we pass through the Trentino.
Well, I had high expectations of this place, given the reviews, and up to a point (inacceptable long wait aside it seemed to hold its promise. But then the food arrived, and we started down a gentle but utterly downhill slope. First things first: we arrive to see a very large table of diners (15? and three more tables of couples, all waiting for orders. We wondered how the kitchen was going to cope with this, and well, sadly the usual: a long time before orders were taken, and about half an hour between the orders and the first course. In fairness, they do bring home made bread at the beginning, which was varied. They also bring you a cube shaped trout sandwich, but here already you start wondering about the food (well, if the wait is putting you in a bad mood you are, but this is under their control , since the bread was dried up. Of course I do not expect them to prepare them at the minute, but they surely can cover it with a damp cloth? Sloppy. Anyhow, I shouldn 't get too hanged up about a complimentary amouse bouche, so in come the primi. The asparagus dish was ill conceived: three white Zambian asparaguses wrapped in speck on a bread crostino smeared with cheese would have been nice, had it not been that one of the three was very bitter, and another one was very stringy the woody, chewed bit left on the plate, feedback given, I 'll find out reply, and that was the last we heard of it. On the same plate was also a rocket salad smothered in oil (not particularly perfumed one at that, though it must have been a local one given this restaurant belongs to the Osteria tipica circuit , which only left a an unpleasant greasy feel in the mouth. The filled pasta was ok, but nothing to write home about. At this stage things were still reasonable but then the mains arrive. The highlight of the cappello del prete dish (a stew was the side of mixed mushrooms, very perfumed if a bit gritty. The meat had given all its taste elsewhere, since it wasn 't in the sauce. Not a bad dish, but a perfectly forgettable one, and since we are in a locanda with a Slow Food endorsement I was expecting flavours to come out distinctly. Sadly, this tasted very average canteen food. But hey, surely the pork spare ribs will save the day? Sadly, no, and I cannot remember a less enticing portion of spare ribs. None of the crusty caramelisation you find on any, they has only sweated their fat to the surface, and taste was the most disappointing feature, they really tasted of nothing: for pork ribs, quite an achievement in itself! The stars of the disk were the roasted potatoes and the sauerkrauts. After this, my notorious sweet tooth had to let go, I could not face any more high calories/disappointing taste combinations, so that was our dinner. Kudos for no cover charge, still rare in Italy, but I still cannot fathom why this place has a Slow Food association beats me. If you are in the area, Locanda D&D up the road (which I have visited several times, though I just realised I never reviewed it , while far from perfect, is vastly superior to Locanda 3 chiavi.
