I've heard it can get busy, but during my visits, it hasn’t felt crowded since I've mainly stopped in for drinks before dinner. The interior has a bright, summery feel, and there's a lovely outdoor area that I’m sure makes for a nice spot for drinks on a summer Sunday afternoon.
I rarely write negative reviews, but I was truly disappointed! They stopped serving food at 2:30 PM, and even though it was just a few minutes past that time, there was no flexibility at all. Instead, they suggested we try the cafes up the street. We won't be returning; this was our first visit back from America after 15 years, and it seems that some things haven’t stood the test of time. It might be time for new management.
It quickly became evident why they wanted us out. We sat there, empty-handed, idly waiting for the next fifteen minutes. I overheard the staff—young women in their twenties—discussing how eager they were to close up and head out for their own night out. They even talked about the two of us still in the pub as if we were an inconvenience to their plans, with one saying, “Forget them.” Around 11:10, the bar manager approached us and asked us to leave. When I questioned the reasoning behind closing so early in a busy tourist destination, she claimed she could do whatever she liked since she was the owner's daughter and ushered us out the side door. As someone who was born and raised in Shropshire, I take pride in Ironbridge's heritage and its importance to local and international tourism. I am appalled by the attitude of the White Hart, which is one of only four pubs along this historic stretch of the River Severn, and feels a responsibility to embody true Shropshire hospitality. If you’re thinking about visiting the area, I urge you to skip this pub. It doesn’t reflect the warm welcome typical of the region. Instead, consider The Swan, The Malthouse, or The Tontine, all located nearby, where you will receive a far better experience. To the owner: You have a great location that could attract many customers, but your daughter’s behavior is jeopardizing that potential. Please take notice! If you believe closing your pub at 10:50 PM is acceptable, perhaps the pub business isn’t the right fit for you.
