The curries were as hot or mild as the menu stated and beautifully flavoursome. mango lassi for just $3 each topped it off.
Stumbled across this little eatery during my visit to the Salamanca Markets in Hobart, Tasmania and highly recommend the delectable food.A couple of days later I went to the eatery in Liverpool Street, Hobart and the food was equally as great with the same efficient and friendly service. The cleanliness of both premises can't be faulted. Absolutely satisfied!
Very friendly staff, always have time for a chat. Having spent some time in South India I can vouch that the food that I have tasted so far (5 visits) is very authentic. Lots of choice on the menu. I have tried masala dosas in other Hobart Indian restaurants and the ones here are the best by a long shot. The prices are very reasonable ($12 for a masala dosa, $10 for a plain dosa, both with all the trimmings). I have yet to try the lunchtime thali, but I believe it is very cheap and delicious! Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. They also have a stall at the Salamanca Market on Saturday mornings.
We didn't make it to the actual cafe as it was closed when we tried, however we had two meals from their stall at the Saturday markets and the food was great. We had the masala dosa (apologies if I have spelt it incorrectly) and lentil 'patties' - I can't remember the Indian name, both dishes were lovely. It was great to be able to grab a bench and enjoy them for brunch. We thought the cafe was open for breakfast as indicated on their takeaway menu, but this wasn't the case - shame. I especially like the fact they serve food different from the standard Indian restaurant fare.
Finally, some fantastic authentic south Indian cuisine! I'm always on the lookout for a masala dosa, and this is the first time I have been able to source one in Hobart. Luckily, it is even delicious! So far I have had the potato masala dosa and the samosa chaat, which were fantastic and tasted just like the real thing. Don't be deceived by the simple restaurant layout. 10/10 for food quality and price.
