After 25 minutes I got up to ask when we might get our order and she said she'd check but there was a big party before us. She never came back to me so after 30 minutes with no food we walked out. Left money for coffee on the table. No one even seemed to notice us leaving.
We have had several meals here since their opening and it has been most satisfying each visit. Our recent 16 group booking was served in a timely manner with delicious selections from the menu. Staff friendly and helpful. We are thrilled to once again have a wonderful restaurant in our town of Hampton.
I had been looking forward to trying out this restaurant since it opened. It was mostly empty when we arrived and we were seated right away. The waitress that we had rushed us from that point on. We hadn't even had a chance to open the menu before she came back to see if we were ready. My friend and I both ordered the avocado BLT and sweet fries. It came quick which was nice. it was okay, but nothing special, just a regular sandwich and fries. The Bacon was very hard. We weren't even half way done, clearly with most of the food still on our plates and still eating, and the waitress returned asking if we were done and if she could take our plates. When we said no were still eating, she then asked how the bills were to be made. She didn't ask us if we wanted anything else, or even refill our waters. She just brought our bills out when we weren't even part way finished. It wasn't busy or closing soon so I am not sure why she was rushing us, but it made us feel unwelcome when we had wanted to go out and enjoy a meal to catch up. We stayed another 25 minutes finishing up our meal and she did not return again. Not sure I will return.
A new favourite date spot for my girlfriend and I. We've been going there for about a year now and have not been disappointed with breakfast, lunch or supper on any occasion. We have also introduced friends and family to The Match Factory and we have heard good reviews from them as well, whether they came with us or tried it on their own. Great tastes and service.
The much anticipated successor to long time local fave Holly's, the Match Factory (which also includes the Matchstick Cafe and a bar area) opened at the end of June 2017 and our group visited July 8. We heard a lot of talk about the premises during its opening week, everything from high praise for the food to comments about long lines and high prices. Word on the street was largely positive, however, but we arrived prepared for anything (and curious). Since it was just after lunch, the restaurant was largely empty except for a few people in the cafe portion. The decor has all the common nods to local history (the restaurant takes its name from the town's former match factory), with perhaps a few too many match images. But overall, it's a contemporary update to the premises. We felt comfortable. Staff gave us ample time to scan the menu, and our meals arrived without much delay. We ordered salads, a wrap and a fish burger. The ingredients were fresh, and everyone was pleased with their choices. Our salads were satisfying, and while the portions could have been more generous the quality was excellent. The prices may be more than Holly's (breakfasts are a dollar more than the going rate elsewhere; lunch and dinner are definitely a step above but again, the quality is there). Based on first impressions, we'd go back. I look forward to breakfast/brunch, and seeing what the restaurant becomes as it hits its stride. It's definitely a much needed addition to the local dining scene, and has most of the ingredients needed to become the go to place that Holly's once was.
