I really enjoy the samosas and chicken rice at this restaurant. The food is excellent.
A Halifax treasure. Shiraz is a Halifax treasure! Unfortunately metro is pretty poor in terms of authentic ethnic restaurants. Shiraz is one of the exceptions. Located in a tiny building on Hollis Street, between Morris Street and Terminal Road, Shiraz can accommodate approximately ten dine-in customers at a time. Once you enter you feel like you 're in a different world, almost everybody speaks Farsi, the owner couple is busy preparing food and chatting with patrons, there is colourful Persian art on the wall and Persian groceries are offered for sale. The menu is short, main course combos range from $9.99 to $18.99, with the median price being $12.99 all prices as of February 2010). They also have wraps for $7.99 and various appetizers and sides. My favourite so far is joojeh kebob which in the menu is being described as 'two skewers of tender marinated chicken thighs served with basmati saffron rice and charbroiled tomatoes ' $12.99). The rice is good, but what is really amazing is the chicken. Stellar. Shiraz is open Mon-Sun 11am-9pm again as of February 2010) and they also do take-out of course) and delivery. There is, in my opinion, only one downside to Shiraz: it is probably 25% more expensive than a comparable restaurant in Toronto. Halifax restaurants remain quite pricey compared to other Canadian cities, which is a pity. Apart from that Shiraz is fantastic. Support it or otherwise it may be gone eventually!
We tend to eat here nearly every time we make a trip to Halifax. The prices are very reasonable, and the owners are quite friendly. The samosas are delicious, and the havij pollo (basmati rice, chicken, carrots and saffron) is incredible. If you've not tried Shiraz, you definitely ought to consider eating there.
Small place with BIG flavor. The soup and the curry chicken served with some rice was really delicious. My wife took the Combo which was also delicious. We will go back before going back home. There is only 3 tables, so if you go at lunch time it might be busy.
