Da Maurizio - Halifax

Incredible food. Poor Ambiance. Lighting was the main issue. It felt like we were in a hotel lobby restaurant. No music, bright overhead lights, casual staff, under dressed patrons. For example, The cutlery was placed directly on the table without linens...chairs were out of place at the table next to us...overall, a very casual environment for a deluxe, fine dining restaurant. We dressed up to go out but most people were not some even wearing shorts. It is possibly a function of a changing society but it seems as if the standards have dropped for fit and finish and that is disappointing. The food was delicious but a fine dining experience is not only about great food. We might elect to go to a place with better, more romantic, atmosphere.

Da Mauricio has always been our go to restaurant for special occasions but we were disappointed on this occasion. The calamari was tough and presentation lacking. My wife's seafood risotto was excellent and she enjoyed it. Unfortunately there was a mix up with my dinner and I was initially served the wrong dish. The problem was rectified but by then my wife was 3/4 through her dinner.

We hosted a private dinning event here for our wedding rehearsal dinner on August 25 2023 ~30 people . The food and atmosphere was perfect, the owner Tanya was so responsive in helping us select our event menu and our beverage selection. I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough for a planning a larger family function. Our server Kelly did a lovely job taking care of everyone. I personally had the Rombo halibut dish for my entree and it was excellent. The blue berry take on tiramisu also received high marks from myself and everyone who tried it. Our welcome margarita... Wow, it was spectacular, many commented that it was best they have ever had, including some who have gone to finer Mexican establishments.
