Caribana Island Grill - Gurnee

I try really hard to support Black owned businesses, but the food was terrible. The corn was chewy, they were out of plantains, red beans and rice was dry and the cabbage was absolutely disgusting. Absolutely nothing was appetizing, except the water. Perhaps it was a bad day for the cook, but I was not pleased or impressed at all. Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2

Well, my dine in experience was great, but my lunch take out was horrible. First of all I ordered red beans and rice, dry is the Word to describe it and tasteless, no beans, one to be exact. The fish sandwich was to be catfish, Not, it is Swai fish (basa Now , I don 't know about anyone else but I know the difference in taste and texture. Then when I call the express my distaste, no seasoning , I actually called it Nasty. I don 't use a lot of seasoning in my food like SALT, but I do use herbs and spices that enhance the taste of my food. In my honest opinion it was not worth my time or money. Then the manager is not consumer friendly. Instead of saying I 'm sorry you feel that way, he argued with me and then said it be your own kind obviously he don 't know me. If the food is nasty , it doesn 't matter who or where I am I voice My truth. The ethnicity of the establishment is not the issue, I 've done it in some of the most elite establishments. So miss me with the it be my own People. If your food leave me desiring to eat a peanut butter and Jelly sandwich instead of one of your dishes , that 's really bad , seeing as I don 't eat PBJs.

Our first experience here will probably be our last unfortunately. We ordered carryout for three people and none of us were happy with our food. Two of us ordered the oxtail which was overly salty yet lacking flavor and not filling. The other ordered etouffe which was also small, watery and tasted mostly like celery. The plantains were dry, hard, and flavorless. The fried cabbage was overly sweet, and lthey completely forgot our side of sweet potatoes. And the rum cake was pretty standard. Our bill was around $100 and the food was practically inedible. I'd recommend looking elsewhere in the area if you're craving plantain or oxtail.

Tried this place for first time today and tried to stay healthy today and ordered ginger salmon salad and brought home jerk chicken tacos which was very good but can't wait to try again and order oxtail stew... I'll be back... Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20
