Contribuiți la feedbackLove this place. It's a cafe but the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. My smoked haddock risotto with a poached egg and black pudding was narrowly beaten by the delicious brownie with salted caramel ice-cream (complete with jug of sauce! for dessert. My favourite place so far in Shawlands.
I rarely dine out in the southside but I ventured through to meet my boyfriends dad and partner one evening after a rather eventful day shopping at Silverburn. I wasn 't exactly hungry and honestly didn 't know what I was going to be able to eat from their menu. Eat Cafe is a tiny little place, more like a little bistro that looks a little out of place amongst Shawlands high street. Staff are really friendly and the place is decorated very well. However, my issue with tiny little restaurants is that they squish tables so close together, it is like you 're sitting at a table for 4 instead of 2. Any closer and you 'd think you 're dining together! I always feel very self concious when trying to squeeze out of my seat, scared in case I bash their table or knock over glasses. Little grip over, onto the food.... I have no complaints. I ordered the Eat Café Steak Burger which was a chargrilled Scottish steak burger with swiss cheese, gherkins, tomato salsa chipotle mayo with some coleslaw and handcut chips. The burger was cooked very well, a little pink in the middle which is good in my eyes! terrific flavour coming from the burger with all the combinations of toppings. The handcut chips were fantastic. They were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside- just how you want them. Lightly seasoned, they were perfect for dipping into the chipotle mayo! I couldn 't finish everything on my plate, so my human dustbin boyfriend did they job for me. I will definitely go back to Eat Cafe and I 'd probably order the exact same thing all over again..... maybe choose my seat a little better though!
Been here a few times for breakfast and was really nice. Lovely French toast and the poached eggs were also good. They make the most amazing macaroons and at only 50p, they are a steal. Only thing is that hardly ever make them anymore, never any there when go in...or maybe I just go in too late! Went for lunch as well and the portions although tasty, were really small and not worth the price.
I had the mezze platter at this restaurant. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The pita bread was hard and not broken into pieces. I usually don't complain about my meals, but this one was particularly bad. Some of the mushrooms in my dish were hard and tasted strange, as if they had been rehydrated. There is nothing wrong with using dried mushrooms, but these were not prepared well. I felt compelled to write this review because of how unsatisfactory my meal was. It seems like someone who works at the restaurant or knows the staff didn't agree with my feedback, as I received a personal attack in response. Not a good experience overall.
I visited this restaurant recently and my opinions are mixed. The food was good but a bit pricey. They were not very generous with the speck in my sandwich, and I had to ask for sauce since it was not offered by the waitress. The main dining area was lovely, but the bathrooms were a bit dirty and cold. On November 4th, 2011 I had a delicious plate of French toast with speck and maple syrup. It was a fantastic addition to the area and much needed. I will definitely return to try more items on the menu if I can get a reservation.
