Tastee Freez - Galax

This review focuses exclusively on the milkshakes, as that’s all I ever order from this place. Having lived in Galax for over 20 years, I can confidently say this is the best spot for milkshakes. I visit almost weekly to indulge in a classic Hand Dipped Chocolate Milkshake. It's a simple choice, but it's incredibly delicious. I’ve experimented with a few other flavors, and while there were some I didn't enjoy—mostly because I’m not a fan of peanut butter—I can affirm that the quality is always top-notch. I even order milkshakes for my colleagues at work, and they have a list of all the available flavors pinned up in the main office for everyone to choose from! Isn’t that great? When it comes to service speed, I usually call in my order and arrive in about five minutes, and it’s always ready when I get there! On occasions when I haven't called ahead, the wait times have still been fairly short, averaging around five minutes, even during busier hours. The longest I’ve had to wait was about 30 minutes, but that was a rare occurrence—it’s happened only once out of the many times I’ve visited. Overall, this is the best milkshake spot in Galax. Fantastic food! Excellent variety. They offer pizza, burgers, and hot dogs.

As soon as they opened, the staff was right there to assist. The ordering process was incredibly quick. I got a double hamburger with lettuce, tomato, and fries. Everything was hot and fresh. The best part of the hamburger was definitely the fresh lettuce and tomato. However, the burger itself was a bit underwhelming in terms of flavor; it had a light brown color that made it seem less appealing. Overall, it wasn't anything special. I really wish the burger had more flavor.

Been eating at this location for four years since arriving in Galax. It has been our Sunday night place for their hamburger/cheeseburger special. Sadly upon reopening in 2023, we feel the quality of the ground beef has changed. The last two visits found hamburger meat that was stringy, unusual smell, thinner size and several small hard pieces of gristle. We will try eating there once more. Hopefully this is not a permanent solution to adjust pricing. Love their ice cream and Coca Cola! Fabulous improvements to the parking lot and facilities.

This charming little spot is located just south of downtown. When we arrived, a friendly woman greeted us and took our order. We decided on some corn dogs, a double bacon cheeseburger, and of course, ice cream cones. The food was served up quickly, and we opted to eat outside to keep the car clean from the inevitable mess. There are a couple of benches to sit on, but having a few tables on the grass would have been a nice addition. The kids absolutely loved their corn dogs, and the burger was fantastic. The ice cream arrived a bit later, but it was just perfect on a hot summer day. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and they provided extra napkins and a wet cloth to clean up the kids once they were covered in ice cream. It’s a great place for a burger and some ice cream!
