Captain D's - Fredericksburg

The fish here is excellent, particularly the spicy fish sandwich, which was incredibly tasty. The fries and hush puppies didn't stand out—they're not typically a big deal for me at most places. You'll have to give them a try yourself; they could be great, just not to my taste. But that fish? It's truly delicious!

I'm adjusting my five-star review to two stars. Unfortunately, they couldn't fulfill my order of 24 double green beans (see pictures). Disappointing, Captain D! I really love this place—it’s my favorite spot for fish aside from my own cooking! Thanks for providing a meal when I'm too exhausted to cook, which is happening more often these days. The prices are reasonable too. I will update this review again if you make things right tomorrow. However, I won't be returning today due to the heavy rain.

This Captain D's is outstanding! It's been around for a long time and consistently delivers delicious food. I want to highlight the AMAZING STAFF! They are irreplaceable and truly deserve the best recognition. I relocated from Fred to Richmond a while ago, and returning to Captain D's felt so welcoming thanks to the wonderful crew (and, of course, the food!). The place is always bustling, and the staff is on top of everything—cleaning, disinfecting, and making sure you have everything you need. They offer better service than many upscale restaurants! My only issue was that I didn’t have any cash on hand! MAKE SURE TO BRING CASH to tip these incredible people.

The staff is attentive, promptly bringing condiments to the table with your orders. The side dishes, including coleslaw, hush puppies, okra, and green beans, are quite good. The catfish and cod entrées are also noteworthy, except for the deviled crab, which is mostly filler and not particularly satisfying, and the tilapia, which lacks flavor. Be sure to ask for extra cracklings with your fish – these are complimentary. Pricing is reasonable for a chain seafood restaurant. This review is presented without using overly dramatic descriptors or informal phrases often found in other reviews. Cleanliness is a concern given the state of the ceilings and vents. There is no need to concern oneself with specifics about individual waitstaff; the focus should be on the food and overall experience. Dietary restrictions, such as allergies or the need for gluten-free options, are not considered a factor in this review. For a detailed assessment, including photos of your meal and a copy of the check, it's best to visit and evaluate the experience personally.

The prices here are fantastic, and the lunch special offers great value. I'm grateful to have such delicious seafood just around the corner. It's similar to Long John Silver's, but in my opinion, the quality is better. The service is excellent, and the drive-thru line moves quickly.
