The burger was accompanied by potato chips that seemed homemade but were actually old and reheated from earlier in the day, which I did not enjoy. I tried a local beer that claimed to be Mexican-style, but it was just average—it lacked the sharp, crisp flavor of a true Mexican beer and instead tasted muted and somewhat soapy. It was served with a lemon. After having two of these beers in quick succession over the course of an hour, the experience was nowhere near as delightful as enjoying a quality Mexican beer. I prefer real German beers, and it's surprising that a renowned establishment like the Grand Hotel doesn't serve Weihenstephaner, which is available in Fairhope. It is far superior to what I had last night and offers a sophisticated taste. My favorite is Weihenstephaner Kristallweissbier, or alternatively, Einstok Icelandic White Ale, which has refreshing notes of oats, coriander, and orange peel, appealing to both genders. I have no ties to any beer company. My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous view of the bay while sitting by a front fire pit, which made the overpriced food and drinks worth it. However, I found the outdoor lighting with LED circular bulbs arranged like UFOs to be unpleasant. I long for the charm of old-fashioned lights that complement the 1800s vibe of the area. These bright, white LED lights were blinding and detracted from the atmosphere. Warmer, yellow-toned lights would have created a much nicer ambiance. I had to consciously look away from them to appreciate the view. A gas lantern placed prominently on a post could greatly enhance the setting; while the fire pits provide natural lighting, some imitation gas lights would fit beautifully with the rustic feel of this wonderful location. We arrived at dusk, and as it got darker, most diners at the bay's fire pits moved indoors. I was bitten by a few mosquitoes during our meal, while my wife remained bite-free, prompting us to go inside for relief. Our waiter was friendly and professional, and his warm demeanor enhanced our dining experience, though he did hold onto my card a bit too long, which made me uneasy. I trust everything is fine, but I'll be keeping a close eye on my credit card bill. There was great live music playing through outdoor speakers, which was a pleasant addition. The tunes were reminiscent of the 1940s; I would have loved to hear some Cab Calloway or Cole Porter, as that kind of piano music seems hard to find these days. I miss the sound of live drumming, which adds so much to a performance. Sure, the drums need proper soundproofing—perhaps even a plexiglass enclosure—but having live drums is a wonderful touch. I also got to enjoy the aroma of fine cigars wafting through the air. Although I no longer smoke, I appreciate the scent of high-quality cigars. I particularly miss the old Rothschild Punches from the early 2000s; they were absolutely delightful.
Had an explosion with friends. Great place to hang up and drink.
Great service and great food. The ambiance is relaxing and a nice way to end the day.
This place deserves more than five stars. Caroline is an outstanding bartender and Olivia and Dakota are outstanding servers! We were treated wonderfully.
