From when you turn into the winding road that leads you down the estate, immediately feel calm and at peace. It's a hidden sanctuary that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of city living but still giving you quality treatment. Our first night, we settled in and had dinner at the Flying Scotsman restaurant. The restaurant serves a 4 course meal that is freshly prepared by the house chef. The food was great with a variety of options and portion size was more than adequate. The breakfast was quality and there was a good selection from the menu. I opted to get a picnic basket for my wife and I to enjoy along the many dams on the estate. This place is highly recommended to get some peace of mind and to get some relaxation.
Recently, during a stay at this five star hotel, we got to experience several days of dining here from leisurely breakfasts to relaxed pub luncheons to their fine dining tasting menus and I could not have been more impressed with both the versatility and comprehensive range of meals on offer here. Interiors: Location, location. This restaurant is nestled in the Dullstroom countryside surrounded by the scenic Mpumalanga highlands and several well stocked trout dams.. what 's not to love? The restaurant has several nooks and crannies to suit your personal seating tastes (such as its Terrace, Peggy 's Pub or The Flying Scotsman) to choose from which have a real Scottish country manor feel, and fireplaces strategically located around the entire building for that hearth comfort. Service: Whether it be Elias, Nico or Richard at the helm to serve us, it is hard not to notice how seamlessly and professionally the hotel staff work together as a team. I was impressed one afternoon after chatting to Elias to hear that he along with a lot of the other staff in fact started off doing the hotel maintenance jobs, and today, he now runs both the bar and restaurant like a true pro. Food: As mentioned above, from picturesque breakfasts overlooking the trout dams to an evening of fine dining in their Flying Scotsman, Walkersons seem to cater for every eating preference including a separate section to accommodate families with small children. Top three dishes during our stay: Sweet Potato Soup served with a potato skin garnish. Springbok Carpaccio with pickled vegetables and Melba toast drizzled with garlic aioli. Chicken 'Marengo ' braised in a rich tomato sauce with mushrooms, peppers, olives, pickled onion and dill cucumbers served over white rice. *Recommendation: Walkersons is definitely a must visit for a meal whilst in Dullstroom! We had a wonderful high tea at this restaurant on Saturday. We were impressed by the great service and delicious food. It was a very enjoyable experience, and their Bloody Mary was particularly tasty!
The restaurant is situated in a picturesque setting, surrounded by trout dams, mountains, and beautiful homes. The food is delicious and the service is excellent, with friendly staff.
The atmosphere and setting of Walkersons restaurant are truly delightful. The decor perfectly complements the 5-star rating of this establishment. The service was excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. However, the food was slightly disappointing. The caprese salad was too heavy, with excessively thick slices of cheese and English tomatoes instead of Italian. On the other hand, the pasta was delicious and beautifully presented. We were just a bit concerned when the waitress had to check the pasta packaging for egg ingredients, as it made us wonder where the chef was. Overall, it was a good dining experience.
