Rated the best Bar-B-Que in the state of ALABAMA in 2020!
The ribs are awesome and are my favorite! I carried a chicken plate to my friend yesterday and she loved it! She said if she knew it was that good, she would have been driving to Elba a long time ago.
They have the best pulled pork, in the whole southeast region ?
This is a hole in the wall. It is a shack with no seating at all. That should be a great sign for some BBQ. Plus, JJ's has won some awards for best pork by the Alabama's Cattlemen Association, I believe. It was a must try despite only having one ranking with a 2 star. I arrive and there is a line and a lot full of cars. I stand in line behind 3 people and I order pretty quickly. But then, I stood waiting for my order for 30 minutes. I saw several people come up and they had done what I wish I would have done and that was call in. You live, you learn. I ordered a pulled pork plate with potato salad, baked beans, and a sweet tea with an extra sauce. Starting with the positives the potato salad and beans were amazing! The potato salad was a mustard base but they added a seasoning to it that gave it a tangy taste that is unique for potato salad. The beans were homemade and sweet and tangy. The beans had onions added to them. The pork was chopped and was tender and flavorful. There just wasn't much sauce to it. I wouldn't say it was the best pork I've had in Alabama but it was still really good. However, they charged me 75 cents for an extra sauce of 2 oz. and I needed said sauce because there was not a lot on the meat. The sauce seemed to be a tomato vinegar type base that was more tangy than sweet. I thought the sauce was good but needed more. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! I really wanted to rate JJ's a 5 to even out the 1 other review it had. The food was worthy of a 5 but some things such as being charged 75 cents for a little container of sauce is ridiculous. There also needs to be better management of fulfilling orders. 30 minutes is a looong time to stand and wait for your order and it's even more disheartening when you see people who pull up after you and get their order before you do. Seems like there needs to be more of a priority given to those who walk up and order. Call then wait 30 minutes before going to get your food.
