My gut said to go in so i followed it in. At first, you don't see much of a restaurant. It's more like a snack in, taken out sandwhich bar and grill but the aromas were epic. I watched the old guy cook for a while and as an Indian food connoisseur myself, i was really impressed with his ingredients. His preparation was truly authentic. He gave me a taste of his butter chicken marinade and his masala sauce both of which sent my tastebuds through the roof. I mean. Wow! You will notice that he hand makes the naan bread with each order and it is not premade nor is it bought. Then like so many other foods at his disposal he uses an authentic Tandoori oven to cook it. Simply remarkable. His basmati rice is solidly the best rice around and his samosas are fat, full of quality items and taste like you should be ashamed of yourself for eating it. He has the meat ones as well but if you want real, you want the veggie ones. He's got a full selection of import and local drinks from alcohol to juice and pop all at a reasonable price. As expected, the butter chicken was epic and you can really taste the individual spices in the sauce. The chicken tikki masala was outstanding. It was rich, thick, foldable and had great amounts of ingredients that stood out. The Chana masala was such a delight to have. Im telling you, if it wasn't for the chicken dishes, i could easily be a vegetarian if I lived near this business. All in all i have been to a lot of Indian restaurants in the south endnof Edmonton, most of which have some sort of Canadian or American spin on their dishes. But if you want authentic. One place to come to is here. You won't be disappointed. Remember, the area is nice and clean but the restaurant is a little small. He is new. It's not impressive but the food is absolutely fantastic. Always forward. Forward always.
This place is great for Take Out. Big portions, and as authentic as I've come across in Edmonton. Prices are fair!!
Stopped in with my grown son. When we went in, we were taken aback. The restaurant is very tiny and the chairs and table are not in the greatest condition. It looks like a little hole in the wall. My son and I looked at each other, a bit hesitant at first, but decided to take a wild chance hoping this would turn out to be an awesome dive.WOW..........WAS IT!!! Manny is the owner...a very sweet man and excellent cook. We started with Chicken Samosa's...hands down the best my son and I have ever had. We were ecstatic! Filled with chicken and seasoning perfectly...not too heavy...just right. The sauces were incredible as well. Next Manny brought out the Naan. His Naan bread is handmade in front of your eyes and grilled to perfection. Slight crisp with perfect center - the best Naan we've ever had! Our anticipation for the Butter Chicken was going wild....Spice Grill was 2 for 2....When He brought out the Butter Chicken, he apologized and said his rice wasn't ready yet but would bring extra Naan bread for us. We were a bit let down at first, because Butter Chicken without Rice just didn't seem right. Our let down was short lived as we dipped our Naan bread into the Butter Chicken bowl. OMG!!! Hands down the best Butter Chicken we have ever had (outside of what I make - I'm a chef). The chicken was grilled before being placed into the sauce. This was the first time I'd eaten Butter Chicken with the chicken grilled...UNBELIEVEABLE flavor!!! My son and I couldn't stop talking about how great it was as we were eating it. It was so delicious that I couldn't stop complementing Manny on the excellent meal sans rice. While we were eating, my son and I looked at each other and said "We found a great dive" and high fived each other. Spice Grill isn't anything to look at...but trust me when I say...you will love the owner Manny and you will love his Butter Chicken, Chicken Samosa's and Naan Bread. Give this dive a try. You'll be back.
Today we went to this restaurant, and we ordered butter chicken for my son. However, the guy who served this food for my son burned it and when I complained to him, he told me that it was actually burned. He didn't apologize and didn't change the food.
We were actually walking to another restaurant when the aroma from Spice Grill caught our attention. We quickly changed our dinner plans and are happy we did.The restaurant may be described as tiny or perhaps maybe even somewhat of a dive, but I prefer to call it cozy. We enjoyed being able to watch the cook (and I presume owner) cooking for his customers. It was a busy evening, and he was doing everything on his own - taking orders, cooking and running cash register. He was very friendly, and it was obvious he cared about his customers and making sure everything was just right. My son had the lamb kebobs and I ordered the chicken tikka masala. Both meals were served with rice and naan. We also shared an order of veggie samosas. Everything was made fresh, served hot, and was delicious. The sauce served with my son's kebobs was the favorite part of his meal. For me it was the samosas - I enjoyed every bite. Fabulous food, friendly and kind service. Couldn't have asked for more.
